Slow and unusable live stream and trying to view recordings

I wouldn’t normally multicast over Wi-fi so I’d suggest have a look at Hikvision Stream Media Server to take the load off the NVR.

Slow and unusable live stream and trying to view recordings

For one source to many viewers it’s better to multicast if your network supports it. Ideally have a separate address per camera. Then the viewer can access the multicast that suits them. Essentially one instance of stream comes from each camera to the first switch. Any clients perform an IGMP...

Slow and unusable live stream and trying to view recordings

So you mean you have switched from H.265+ to H.265? I am familiar with HEVC encoding and have read their white paper on the topic. I don't think they have done anything revolutionary as they claim to have stuck with the HEVC standards. It is more likely they are optimising this for storage...

Slow and unusable live stream and trying to view recordings

When you say video compression set to high, what do you mean? There are a few video settings and none of these explicitly state compression. I don't think the NVR is compressing the camera streams (when nobody is watching) and it is merely writing them to disk. There is a chance it is...

Slow and unusable live stream and trying to view recordings

Good to see this is sorted. Much bigger system than I’ve ever seen. I presume the web clients are watching the feeds on the NVR and this is producing extra load.

Hikvision 2CD3145 - Remote configuration impossible

Yes, seeing the video over Hik-Connect makes sense. I’ve also never used it. Reverse SSH tunnel from the remote end would be my solution. Then tunnel via that to configure.

Hikvision 2CD3145 - Remote configuration impossible

I think you’ve just been lucky with that port number. If you want to do better checks then I’d suggest running Wireshark and making a capture on the PC running iVMS. Perhaps NMAP to scan the remote end. Standard network testing tools.

    Nvr and Network switch

That should make life much easier. Hard to imagine why this wasn’t possible before. Even for home users, it’ll make life easier having one flat network. No virtual host, no static routes or other fiddling about. Phil’s life should easier judging by the network queries on here. My E NVR...

Hikvision 2CD3145 - Remote configuration impossible

I suspect you’ll be restricted in terms of ports if the ISP is performing NAT.

Don’t change the IP address ranges. Stick a static route on the router.

    Dedicated WiFi network for cams

Mesh networking just seems like Wi-fi plus marketing to me. Aside from APs talking to each other using dedicated channels it’s the same contended protocol as before. Having enough APs to get the client concentration down to two or three cameras will sure help, as said previously. I’d...

    Dedicated WiFi network for cams

I think it’s a bad idea. The reason is that Wi-fi is a contention-based protocol and that doesn’t mix well with video that is real time. I expect you’d get away with a few cameras and a low frame/bitrate. You then add another and the wheels really fall off. The only mitigation would be...

POE Cable Damaged Pin 1 Orange & white

For the more basic PoE, which these cameras have, you use the data pairs for power. It’s the orange and green pairs. You are wired using 568B spec by the sounds of it. The brown and blue pairs are spare, so you can use either instead.

    Hikvision nvr settings

Having more I frames doesn’t boost quality. It’ll speed up time to recover if there’s some kind of stream corruption as the decoder can only start on an I frame. Sometimes known as a key frame or IDR (instantaneous decoder refresh). Some people like to have one every couple of seconds.

I haven’t done anything specific on the camera. Might be some variation in the URL across firmware versions.
