If you add the camera to your LAN and prove that as per #2 then we have moved on a few steps - we will know that you have a working ONVIF camera at a valid network IP address and we can then try to progress getting the DVR to also see it.

After selecting Playback mode, are you then clicking on the play icon? We can't offer much help unless you provide the extra information we need ...

Are you using a PC wired to your home network, not a wireless connected laptop?

It's quite an old NVR model - make sure that you are running the latest firmware available for it.

Add your Sony camera to your network and check it is ONVIF ok with the ONVIF Device Manager utility. What model DVR do you have please? How many cameras connected? (analogue & IP)

Can you share the model number and upload an image of what you see in playback please.

If the cores are not damaged, and it's working OK, then I'd just tape it up and press-on. Obviously, make sure the bracket is now sealed and the mice can't get at it.
