That's Hikvision for you, confusion is their middle name. On firmware, you can go directly to the latest firmware from whichever firmware the NVR is on. For best practise, I usually factory default the equipment after a big firmware jump and set up from scratch

Your DVR is the first gen acusense (K71) and the firmware I previously linked is the only one on the portal. Try V4.70.110_220328 which is found on the Hikvision website but nowhere to be found on the portal.

You used the gen 2 firmware when your recorder is gen 1 and you've likely bricked it unless it can be revived. Probably best to return back to your supplier explaining above. The correct firmware for gen 1 is here

The DS-7216HUHI-K2/P supports power over coax. Depending on which model your friend has, either the built in PSU has failed or if the DVR is the non P model, he likely has an external box PSU which has failed.
