I tried a different camera and it worked first time. Weirdly, this also seems to have fix the issue with the original camera. Both work fine now, even after restarts. I have no idea why this was but presumably it triggered some sort of reset. I guess the lesson is not to give up!
I'm thinking of disabling encryption so I can access video over RTSP. However, I'm not quite clear on the security implications of this. As I understand it, the stream will still be secured by the basic RTSP authentication – i.e. you will still need a username/password to access the RTSP stream...
Thanks. Helpful to know that could be the root of the problem, even if it doesn't lead to an obvious solution. I'll try a camera from a different brand (I have one lying around) and see if that helps
One additional point. I haven't yet installed a hard drive in the NVR since I want to be able to return it in new condition if it's not working. I don't think this is relevant – presumably the camera settings are not saved to the hard drive, since all of the rest of them are persisted between...
