Hello All,
Im new to the forum and thought i'd join to expand my knowledge and seek advice. Hopefully learn along the way!
I have a basic 8 channel DVR and camara setup. Its a hardwired (Coax) system with BNC connections both ends.
I need to add more cameras but it only has 8 inputs.
Can I expand one of the channels to take more cameras with some kind of splitter. I understand that I will only be able to watch one camera at a time but it saves plugging and unplugging the cameras form the DVR.

Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Stuart

Hi.

That DVR is designed to Record 8 Channels. so i believe there is no way for you to record 9 channels on an 8CH DVR.

Solution 1:
you can replace your current DVR with 8CH XVR (Hybrid DVR) that allows you to add up to 8CH AHD cameras and then you will also be able to add some IP Channels as well. you can record and get live view from all channels.

Solution 2:
if you ONLY need to LIVE VIEW that one extra camera (not recording it), once (maybe around 15 years ago!) there was a device called "Quad". i believe if you check on ebay or Amazon you can find it. you could connect camera directly to it and the Quat to TV. but i should mention, i don't know if you can connect current AHD cameras to Quad or not, because that time the image quality was below 1MP (TVLine)

Good Luck!

Thanks for the reply Sammi! Looks like i got a problem.
Isnt there a manual switch device whereby you can switch/select a camera to feed down that input to the dvr. Thats all I really want. Saves unplugging and re plugging the bncs on the dvr every tine I want to change camera
An automatic one that scans would be even better!
