Hikvision DS-7204HUHI-K1 disk exception

Hey all

Recently I've been getting random beeps every 2 mins or so from the NVR. Upon further investigation it says there is a disk exception:

This is what the status of the HDD shows:

When I try to format it, it fails and says Error in the Status column.

and when I go to bad sector detection, this is what it shows:

It reads:

HDD Capacity: 3726.02GB
Block Capacity: 2384.65MB
Status: Aborted (too many bad sectors)
Error Count: 100

Does this confirm that the HDD is busted and needs to be replaced?

Please let me know, thanks!

BTW, the only access I have to the NVR is via the web portal, the local screen is busted and I can't access locally via the screen output at this moment in time!

Yes it needs replacing. Power down, switch it out and once powered up format the new one from that page.

What HDD does this NVR take? Is it a 3.5 inch standard HDD?

How can I find out the model number if I want to get an exact like for like replacement?

I’d recommend Seagate Skyhawk Surveillance or Western Digital Purple as they’re intended for 24/7 recording. There’s no knowing what you have in currently is compatible but as soon as you have the kid off you can see what brand and model it is.

I've currently got a 4TB in there (as can be seen from the screenshot above), what size would you recommend replacing it with? 4TB enough or something a little higher?

The disk size is based on the number of cameras, encoding, frame rate and how long you want recordings before they're overwritten. If you're happy with how long you were retaining the images for prior to the drive failure just stick with 4TB. Your DVR is a 4 channel model and is restricted to 12 frames per second at 5 megapixel or full frame at 2 megapixel. Assuming you already have 5 megapixel cameras I'd imagine you're getting 3 or 4 weeks minimum recording time which should be sufficient. I'm only ever interested in keeping recordings for as long as I may beauty on holiday - a fortnight or so; if I had something happen just after I left, as long as I've got access to the footage on my return I'm good.

RPM doesn’t matter. The only way you can be 100% sure of comparability is to trawl through the Hikvision hard disk compatibility document and only install one of the precise model numbers listed for your DVR. I wouldn’t bother - just put a Seagate Surveillance or Western Digital Purple in.
