This is a bit of a long story. I decided to revive my Hikvision system after many years. The system consists of:

1. DS-7608NI-I2/8P NVR - This was powered off and stored properly. It has a 4T WD CCTV drive in it. (I think I bought this from use-IP)
2. 1xDS-2CD2142FWD-IS - external (I don't think I bought this from use-IP, although might have bought one of them)
3. 1xDS-2CD2142FWD-IS - garage

The cameras are connected over PoE. While not in use, the cameras were left in place just not powered up, the NVR was powered off and stored at ambient temp. I thought I would upgrade the firmware on all devices as I read that Hikvision devices have some security issues. I managed to upgrade the cameras to the latest firmware (v5.5 (off the top of my head)), although the whole process was hard work. I ended up being able to live view over the LAN not connected to the NVR, so I assume they are running ok. The firmware is also the updated.

So I turned my attention to the NVR. I managed to update it to the v4.61.03build240123 firmware (I think it was 3.X something before). I did this via the GUI and a FAT32 formatted USB drive.

Initially, it seemed to reboot a lot but I thought it had settled down. I did manage to get through the startup wizard and then it asked to change to a more appropriate resolution, at which point I clicked yes and the display went black. I managed to reset the resolution via the web to get the GUI again.

Now I have the cameras connected, if I reboot the NVR and interact with the GUI, I get the startup wizard again and then at the end of the wizard it will just reboot and go to the wizard again. Also, if I interact via the web it will also just reboot (I think the onboard battery is dead - not sure if that is causing issues?).

The whole thing cameras and NVR has been monumentally painful. So before I ditch the NVR and go with a Linux system/PoE switch, I just thought I would post here to see if anyone has any ideas. The serial number starts with a 590 (I read that some earlier serial numbers had reboot issues with new firmware).

Please let me know if you need any more info. Thanks in advance!
