Hikvision DVR Not Showing Images From Cameras?

Hi
Recently moved home and inherited a Hikvision DS-7204HUHI DVR with 3 cameras connected by what I think are called BNC connectors.

The DVR itself 'seems' to function correctly except that no camera images are displayed - just 3 blank screens where the pictures should be (maybe says something like 'no camera input' not sure without going into loft and switching everything back on).

The 3 cameras are powered through a splitter by a 12V 5A power supply which was dead. I replaced it with a new one and checked that it was giving 12V with a voltmeter, which it was.

The cameras themselves are quite difficult to get to to check for good connections as they are in the eaves. The cables near the DVR seem fine as do the connections to the DVR itself. I have tried plugging each camera input into the back of the DVR individually but each time no image is displayed.

It seems unlikely though not impossible that all 3 cameras have connectivity issues so as yet I haven't checked this at the camera end.

Could it be a fault with the DVR?

I have an IP camera that I brought with us when we moved but I can't use this with the Hikvision as it's not BNC. Does the Hikvision DVR need Hikvision cameras to function or could I use anything with a BNC connector to test?

Hoping someone can shed some light on this as I don't really want to call out a CCTV guy

Is your DVR's monitor connected via a BNC co-ax cable?
If so, you can connect each camera directly to it, just to check them.

Hi thanks for replying.
It's a BNC co-ax cable. I know this is really an IP camera forum but I've had no joy elsewhere so far.

I've connected each camera separately but there is no image from the camera each time.

This makes me think that it's a problem with the Hikvision DVR

Just to double-check you understood my suggestion / have tried it.
If your system monitor is a co-ax model, you can connect each camera in turn directly to it (bypassing the DVR).
If you get an image on the monitor from each camera, then the cameras are OK.

Unfortunately, even analogue CCTV cameras are no longer as straight forward as they used to be when their only output option was 1volt peak-to-peak.

I didn't have a female BNC to male DTV adapter so I had a look on eBay and found one, but before I ordered it I thought it best to check my system again.
I tried attaching the cameras 1 at a time like I did before but this time they all showed images as expected. I think it was a poor connection on the mains supply side of the new 12V 5A power supply that I bought to replace the duff one. I gave the mains lead a wiggle and the thing worked.

Thanks for helping
