Hikvision have released a new "Lite" version of their iVMS-4200 software:
Please find a specification and user manual attached.
From the information provided it looks as if this will suffice for most SOHO/end-user solutions.
It doesn't seem to be available for download from the European portal yet.

At the time of writing V2.5.0.5 seems to be the latest version.

The Lite download is approx. 100MB, compared to 230MB for the full iVMS-4200 version.

Updates:
1. Functions including Video Wall, E-map, Security Control Panel, Video Intercom are not supported in 4200 lite.
2. V2.5.0.5 does not support the Chinese and English language switching.
3. Support setting the rotate type of the camera for the live view or playback.
4. If the client quits abnormally, it would remain the preview interface after you re-open it.
5. During live view of speed dome, support PTZ control of one-touch patrol and one-touch Park functions.
6. Support image capture for fisheye expansion during live view and remote playback.
7. Support merging the video files when downloading by date.
8. Support scroll down the mouse wheel to play the video files frame by frame.
9. Support zoom in or zoom out via mouse wheel.
10. Support the 16X fast forward speed of the playback.
11. Add the option of selecting playback source: the storage server, or the device, or both.
12. The client can get the live video of the offline camera via the stream media server if the stream media server is configured.
13. Support H.264 decoding by hardware for live view and playback (except Windows XP).
14. The name of Ezviz Cloud P2P is changed to Hik cloud P2P.
V1.0.0.4 Key Updates:
1. Support displaying and modifying channel information under the device pull-down list in device management module.
2. Newly added video clip function.
Caveats:
We have not tested this yet.
I can see several anomalies regarding dates e.g. I cannot recall ever seeing a Lite version before, it is marked as NEW! at their website (China & UK), but contains date references going back to 2015.
