Hi all, hope you can help,

Following a brief loss of WiFi last Sunday lunchtime, my HikVision DVR (iDS model) has lost the live feed from the cameras.

I can still see the playback footage, and the cameras are still registered on the HVR 3.6 software, but when it comes to the Camera Setup screen, there is nothing to select, despite pressing Add or Search or Activate (see attached photos).

I've tried factory resets, downloading the SADP software (which took hours to finally execute and then recognise the device), YouTube tutorials, etc.

The cables to the cameras look fine, other threads are suggesting inadequate power supply.

Any help on this is much appreciated.

Many thanks peeps.

Can you share a screenshot of the SADP results table please?
Are you cameras connected to the rear of your NVR?
Is wi-fi 'in play' at all in your IP CCTV setup?
Or do you mean that you lost the internet / your router went down?

Hi,

Software is actually HVR 4.0 btw!

SADP Screenshot attached x 3.

See more photos for how cameras are connected (Channels 1 & 2).

WiFi setup seems fine, did the test and it sent a packet of data fine.

Router was only down for about 20 secs last Sunday.

Oh, and how unstable is that Hik Connect app on your phone, absolute worst piece of software ever created, forever crashing.

Cheers people in advance...

Is your Philips monitor (in photos at #1) actually the direct connected monitor?
e.g. on the end of the HDMI cable I can see connected to the back of the DVR?
And, if so, even on that direct-connected monitor you see no LIVE video?

And, when you say you can still playback video, presumably that is older recordings?
i.e. there is currently no camera feeds, and it has therefore stopped recording new footage?

Yes, the Phillips TV plugs directly into the DVR with a HDMI cable.
It was all working fine for over a year until Sunday.
Playback recordings are still accesable prior to Sundays WiFi outage.

Was the WiFi outage actually a power cut?

As you lost the video feed from the cameras to the view on a monitor directly connected to the DVR at that time it's likely this has nothing to do with networks / WiFi.

Hi peeps,

Also noticed that the red light in between the two white lights on the front of the NVR doesn't flash anywhere near as much as it used to.

Maybe it's a power issue?

Any feedback on this is more than welcome, as starting to run out of ideas in this one. Ordering new cables next ...

Thanks,

James.

Hi, the red LED is hard disk activity so with the video feeds down the hard disk won’t be doing too much and therefore the light not blinking as much.

It would be unusual for 2x cameras to fail at the same time and the recorder appears to be working ok so my first thought is the camera power supply, which from your photos looks like a single unit with multiple leads to connect to multiple cameras.

Do you have any other 12v power supplies you can use to test powering a camera with?

Don’t worry about powering both cameras, just one at a time is good enough to test.

A lot of household gadgets/tech utilise 12v power supplies, have a hunt around, don’t use a supply of a different voltage.

Hi Tesla,

Fortunately, I have just ordered a new exact replacement 12V Power Supply (1.5A) from eBay for £6.

Delivery on Tues/Wed/Thurs.

Any other ideas in the meantime, fire away ...

Hi all,

I received the replacement 12V power supply cable (1.5A, Centre positive), and no change at all. NO VIDEO still displayed, & cameras are still not recognised upon Camera Setup in the wizard.

Could it be the DNS settings?

I use the following;-

Preferred DNS: 194.168.4.100
Alternate DNS: 194.168.8.100

Any other ideas, send me a reply please.

Thanks,

James.

The network settings won't have any impact that would stop you seeing the cameras on your monitor that is directly connected to your DVR.
From your earlier photos, you have quite a complex setup of baluns and two-wire cable to feed power to the cameras and bring the video back to the DVR.
To find the fault you are going to need to break it down to very simple first.
Fetch one of the cameras close to the DVR.
Use a shop-bought short co-ax lead to connect the camera to the DVR.
Wire one PSU to that one camera.
If that works, then we know that the issues are with the install, baluns, or cabling (not the camera nor PSU).
If it doesn't work, even with such a basic setup, then we'll need to check the second camera and/or another PSU (as you have purchased a brand new PSU, we'd expect at least one to be working ok!).
If neither camera works with any PSU, then it's either the cameras, or possibly the input to the DVR.
If you can get access to a CCTV monitor you could check the cameras direct to a monitor.
