Replacement camera

I'm gradually updating my domestic cctv system. We are in a relatively remote rural location and have internal and external POE Hikvision cameras connected to a NVR. One of the internal cameras has become erratic and unreliable. I've checked and the problems are definitely with the camera and not the cabling. It is a DS - 2CD2532F-1. It is in our main, large living room. When working reliably the camera served its purpose well with adequate coverage of the room. I would though prefer to replace it with something better. It needs to be unobtrusive and this puts me off the white light Colorvu options and turret cameras. A 2.8mm fixed lens seems best, but I am no expert. I will appreciate any suggestions as to a current suitable alternative. I have looked across the Hikvision camera range, but it is a little daunting given my limited experience. Thanks.

Thanks for the quick response. On one site I see that the camera you suggest is described as having "wireless" connectivity although being powered by poe. Is that correct? Also, an electrician I have used regularly today suggested that the DS-2CD2583G2-IS 8MP might be a good fit. What do you think of that camera please?

Hi @Hikory

There are different versions of the Hikvision Mini Domes, the -IS model I linked to above is the non-WiFi model that has to be hard-wired to the network.

If you want a WiFi model you will need to look for one with -IWS like the DS-2CD2546G2-IWS

The 2583G2-IS model is a higher resolution 8MP model, but for small, indoor spaces you aren't going to see a significant difference in image quality between 4MP & 8MP.

Thanks again Dan. That is helpful and informative - particularly the advice about 4MP v 8MP indoors. I want a wired camera as the cabling is already in place. I suspect I misread the model number when I read that it was wireless. I will go for the DS-2CD2546G2-IS 4MP.
