Intrusion detection playback on HikVision – Push video not loading on iPhone. Need advice.

Hi everyone,

I spent 4–5 hours testing Intrusion Detection with a HikVision IP camera + NVR. At my home everything worked fine without any issues.

Camera: DS-2CD2T46G2H-4I
NVR: iDS-7204HQHI-M1/E
Also connected: 2 new analog Hikvision cameras (no issues there).

The issue:
Push notifications work, but on the client's iPhone, video clips often won’t load — they freeze, buffer, or fail with “decoder time out” or similar messages.

On my Samsung (Android), everything works perfectly. But I didn't test it at clients home.

What could be the cause?
  • iPhone compatibility? Is HikVision Hik Connect working good with iOS?
  • Poor internet? (Client uses 5G router, no direct ISP cable)
  • Video resolution too high? Because of the bad internet, it is hard to upload and open the video?
  • Should I enable snapshots instead of video? Is it even possible to do this? Or is just

Would appreciate any advice. Nobody around me uses smart events — most just stick with AHD setups. I really want to learn and improve. I have nobody to ask. People around me work with analog cameras only. No advices whatsoever, everyone runs from smart things because clients are really bothering them.

Update: I also forgot to mention that my bitrate is pretty high on that IP camera. Even though it worked in my home on my Samsung, could that be the problem why is this happening?

I can't go to that location for the next 3 days. After 3 days, one of the first thing I will try is lowering the bitrate.
What should I try next?

That's a DVR not an NVR. I'm not saying that it's the cause but perhaps you could just add the IP camera directly to Hik-Connect as a standalone device and you'll probably find everything works normally.

I certainly wouldn't be lowering bit rate and affecting recording/streaming quality for the sake of a clip in the app.

Hm. That is interesting. I can add IP camera as a standalone device, I just thought that it is unecessary. I will try that for sure...

Edit: Thank you.
