Ok managed to solve that - all i needed to do was rename the cameras on the NVR and then the app started notifying me correctly again, very bizarre! Just need to figure out the IVMS app now.

@Phil thanks for the link but didnt help. Managed to solve myself. On the nvr via the web browser i needed to navigate to: System settings -> Menu output then select HDMI and ensure the resolution was valid. Then it rebooted and was fine!
