Can't update NVR DS-7608NXI-I2/8P/S

Hi all,

Hoping for some help, I'm trying to update my DS-7608NXI-I2/8P/S AcuSense (C) NVR

It's currently running firmware V4.40.416 build 210108, the online upgrade within NVR web access doesn't show any updates.

However there are updates

E.g. Firmware linked from these pages:

Firmware_V4.62.210_230619

Firmware_V4.62.225_240123

Both pages release notes show they work with the C version, however both fail when trying to upload.

Any ideas?

Thank you

Hi @alexf40

The issue might be that you are trying to skip over too many firmware versions in one update.

Try updating to V4.51.200 first, and let us know if that update works.

Hi @Dan, thank you I hadn't thought to try that, but unfortunatly I get the same upgrading failed error message "Failed to get the upgrading progress".

I've tried in Chrome, IE, IVMS and HikCentral Lite. I've also tried the HiTools delivery tool, but on entering the serial number it only shows the current firmware.

Hi @alexf40 ...

Do you have a monitor and mouse connected to the NVR? If so, copy the digicap.dav firmware file to a USB memory stick, insert it in the NVR, and try loading directly from the NVR console GUI menus.

Hi @johnfitzy thanks for the help. I wish I had a screen connected, I have to climb a ladder, take the NVR out the cabinet, take it to the house and plug it in to my study. Really need to add a screen to my cabinet for days like this.

Anyway, afraid it didn't work, I tried all three firmware direct from the NVR, but do get a clearer error message, firmware mismatch. But everything I can find shows these are the right firmware for my NVR.

I'm now wondering if I've got an odd one with different hardware.

Ugg... sorry I made you climb a ladder; I hate that! :)

I took a look at the UK Portal for DS-7608NXI-I2/8P/S... there are 2 versions listed there... C and non-C:

The version you currently have is only listed under the non-C so you must have the non-C version and the firmware you are running is probably the latest already:

Thanks for your help with this. This is another reason why I hate hikvision, their firmware, model numbers, random hardware changes are shocking.

As far as I can tell I have the C variant. The serial number contains CC, DS-7608NXI-I2 / 8P/S0820210119CCRRF...

From reading online there were three versions.

Non C - 1st hardware - v4.22.x-v4.30.x (stopped at v4.30.115)
C version (what I believe I have - v4.40.x - v4.62.x (Supported to Jan 2024 v4.62.225)
E version - v5.0.x - v5.04.066 June 2025

However the link you posted shows the non C as being v4.40.416 which would mean I have the non C hardware but with C serial number.

So guess this explains the miss match error.

The only reason I was looking to upgrade the firmware, was since moving to HikConnect Lite one of my cameras keeps resetting it's bitrate to 640.

If you have a C version, I think it should have "(C)" after the model number on the physical serial number sticker on the machine.

That CC does not mean it is a C version... here's how to interpret the serial number:

You can also go to "System Configuration/Basic Information" and check your firmware property value... if you compare the firmware property value to the names of the firmware zip files it might confirm something:

Thanks @johnfitzy, looks like I sadly definetly have the non C version. No C after the model number, I was using ChatGPT for research, around dates/firmware versions obviously it's wrong.

Production date is 2021-01, purchased 2021-09 and last firmware was 2021-11. Amazing two months of support from purchase date, and less than a year of support since manufactured.

Anyway thank you for your help with this.

The only reason I was looking to upgrade the firmware, was since moving to HikConnect Lite one of my cameras keeps resetting it's bitrate to 640.

Maybe it's this:

Also, ensure that "Adaptive Bitrate Streaming" is not checked on the "Network/Platform Access/Hik-connect/More Options" page of the NVR... if it is checked, when you use the "Basic" setting in Hik-connect, it may change/lower the sub-stream resolution settings.

Thanks, I can't find it in the NVR settings.

I had the same problem a while back and it was @JB1970 who advised me to turn off "Adaptive Bitrate Streaming"... but I can't seem to find the thread, and I don't know what NVR/firmware I was using at the time...

I do remember it was only the sub-stream resolution/bitrate that was changed with this setting on... each time I would view the "Basic" stream in Hik-connect, the sub-stream downgraded... very annoying...

Here's the setting on a fairly recent M series running V5 firmware...

Maybe @JB1970 knows more?

Adaptive bitrate streaming is also an option in V4 firmwares. I can’t recall whether it’s in the Platform Access page or elsewhere but it’ll be turned on by default and should be switched off.
