can i use a usb stick to get my camera to record without installing a harddrive into the NVR if so how do i get it to work

With your DS-7604NI-Q1/4P NVR, it is not possible to record to a USB memory stick. the only way to record is to install a HDD, we would recommend a Western Digital Purple Surveillance HDD.
