Gents i have a couple of the 180 Hikvision Cameras, and just wanted to know whats the best settings for the Camera itself to get the best from it....
Ive noticed due to the amount of light i have outside see enclosed Picture it never goes to Black and White. But when i see dodgyness i have trouble reading plates due to headlights. the colourvu is nice though as i get to see clothing and car colours etc.... but cant see plates for headlights.....

Should i switch to Black and white ?
Or should i keep it as is and tweak some stuff, but what am i tweaking ....Picture enclosed for Ref

Any tips of the settings would be great
I do read about upping my shutter speed it was on 1/12. to 1/200 upwards but of course this may make it darker correct

Please advise

many thanks

You're unlikely to get plates on moving vehicles. It may be possible during the day but at night it's not going to happen.

1/12sec is how the cameras ship. The setting is the longest exposure time that the camera will go down to so it's not necessarily using that 1/12sec. However 1/12sec is too slow to prevent motion blur, even of pedestrians. 1/50sec is about the slowest it should be but as less light is getting to the sensor that will result in a darker image and/or more sensor noise.

The sensitivity of the camera to light which enables colour images in darkness is also causing overexposure from car headlights. Switching to black and white is probably not possible on your model; the 2387G2P is a pure ColorVu camera without infra red LEDs (white LED only). Forcing it to 'night' through the menu will just turn on the white LED if it's needed and the camera will remain in colour.

The newer hybrid model cameras (ColorVu G2H and G3) feature both white LED and infrared LED illuminators along with an infrared cut filter, so can be used in black and white. However you'd still not get a numberplate, firstly because the infra red would reflect off the plate causing just a white rectangle to be visible and secondly because you'd struggle to resolve the characters in a moving numberplate at that distance.
