Will a Hikvision IR night vision camera installed within the detection zone of an existing PIR security light work ok ? and vice-versa ?

There shouldn't be an issue with this kind of setup as long as the PIR light source is not visible in the field of view of the camera as this will create glare on the cameras lens. Also, you may see the IR cut in and out when the visible security light turns on, if you don't like this you can always set the cameras IR cut filter manually so it switches at a set time and changes in the lighting will not turn the cut filter on or off.

Thank you for suggestion on the IR filter, one issue is that when the LED security light is on then the camera reverts to ‘daylight mode’ and there is a magenta strobe effect rolling up the video image. Secondly I wondered whether the security PIR detector might be falsely triggered by the IR light from the camera ?

PIR is passive infrared which detects heat and movement so the IR LEDs turning and shining at the PIR sensor should not be a problem, the only way to avoid that magenta sensor issue would be to force the camera to stay in night mode until a certain time in the morning.
