I spoke to a supplier this morning regarding a back order on DS-7604NXI-K1/4P(D) NVRs. The single HDD models of these NVRs were supplied without the 40mm case fan. I've been told that due to a higher than expected number of failures, they are opening all units on arrival and retrofitting the fan, as Hikvision and Seagate think that excess heat may be the cause.

@Smoggie89 - I immediately remembered your post regarding premature HDD failure:

We also have the same problem overseas. No difference between WD Purple and Seagate Skyhawk. After 2 or 3 months, the Harddisks will be broken.

I hope not, I've installed quite a few. I can't see how the fan will help much as the reported HDD temperature is only a few degrees Celsius higher without the fan and well within the HDD manufacturers operating limits.

Stagnant air is the biggest problem. Heat output depends heavily on usage, such as the number of PoE channels used and the decoding capacity (connected monitor). With the DS-7608NXI-K1/8P(D), heat problems are even more serious.
