It has long been standard practice for devices such as Synology's range of NAS boxes that you could link them to the UPS providing power to them, with a USB cable for instance, so that the NAS would know if/when there is a power failure AND at a pre-configured level of battery discharge the NAS can gracefully shut down. Thereby avoiding the ultimate total power loss and a crash shutdown when the UPS batteries become fully depleted. The intention being that a graceful shutdown of the NAS should prevent data loss or disk damage.

Hikvision NVRs have never had the facility to do this.
People have asked us / we have asked Hikvision.

Today @mtv mentioned that he had discovered the attached pdf guidance on how to achieve this.
It applies to NVRs with the specified NVR firmware - above V4.1.70 build 190307.

I don't know whether it also only works with certain UPS models.
The UPS will need to have a network connection / IP address.
The example shown in the pdf is for a Schneider UPS with a Network Management card installed.

This method relies upon the NVR and UPS sharing information via the network using Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP).

This is our first sight of this capability, we are sharing here as I'm sure it will prove useful to some.
If you use this info, then please add a Post with any further learnings that may help others.

If you are a UPS maker/vendor and know how to set this up with your UPS, then likewise please feel free to respond / promote your solution :)
