Morning all. New to the forum and could use some experienced advice on how to develop our system going forward please.

What we have now - System is full PoE Cat 6 RJ45 wired extensively, whole house flood wired top to bottom, 95% on wires, very little wireless. The wireless we do have is Netgear Orbi, wifi 6 and works nice enough, I just like copper better. Cameras are Logitech Alert (don't laugh :-) ) .... about 9 or 10 external and 4 internal. Whilst long in the tooth they have performed amazingly well and are now approaching maybe 12 years old. Software wise I've used Logitech Commander but moved to Blue Iris running on solid hardware which has been excellent. Police have used video many times and always comment on the image quality. In reality I think it's because we have a good sun line rather than the cameras being anything so special.

The Problem - None essentially except that Logitech have at last took the Commander SW off their support site but B.I is a super product with super support. It's just that the cameras are starting to creak a bit now and I think it's time to be considering a replacement route and upgrade route. They are getting more challenging to get fixed when they do go.

So I'm looking for a bang up to date camera for external running on PoE with RJ45, ideally that you can add storage to with excellent quality and robust hopefully for another 12+ years. And same again for the few internal ones. With IR and essentially whatever is the best we can get having got the best out of the old Logitech Alerts. Essentially to replace with the best of breed unit we can.

Also to note, we have a large IR emitter at the front of the house where most cams are ... a large Raytec one I picked up off ebay. The cameras were originally a couple of new ones bought ones but mainly ebay ones that we've either dropped lucky with or repaired.

My knowledge of the market is pretty thin. I've installed a couple of budget systems for my Mother and neighbour .... Swann kits .... that have again proved amazingly OK given the very low price tag. But I'm looking to spend some and get it right. A fit and forget approach.

Would very much appreciate your opinions and suggestions and experiences to make sure that I get it right. I think it will be a bit by bit replacement rather than a wholesale one.

Many thanks in advance for your help

Hi @Mkultra

To replace your Logitech cameras, we would probably recommend some Hikvision models.

For the outdoor cameras, we would recommend either the DS-2CD2346G2-IU 4MP AcuSense Turret or the DS-2CD2046G2-IU 4MP AcuSense Mini Bullet.

For the indoor cameras, we would recommend the DS-2CD2446G2-I 4MP AcuSense Cube Camera.

Many thanks for the quick reply Dan. Just reading about those now. Blimey the spec Vs cost equation has hugely changed since my 2011 Logitech investment. From memory these things were well over £300 at the time. The HK ones are very good value.

And what are the arguments would you say between those two different external versions? Spec reads similar. Do these units have good reliability in your experience?

Certainly like the look of these.

EDIT .... also are these having onboard storage with them? I'm looking but it's not jumping out at me. Thanks

Yes, Hikvision is one of the biggest CCTV brands in the world now and they probably offer the best features for the best price of any professional CCTV brand.

I recommended the Mini Bullet model simply because when I Googled "Logitech Alert" I could see several outdoor models that looked similar in style to Hikvision bullet models, so I thought you might want something that looks visually similar.

The turret model is our preferred model, the flat-faced design means they work/survive better in all weather conditions, the separate windows for the lens & IR mean you get better IR performance with less risk of IR glare/reflection, and the turret-style cameras are visually slightly more discreet than the bullet-style cameras.
