Vivotek VSS
VAST Security Station

What is VSS
Vivotek VSS Logo

VSS is short for VAST Security System. It's Vivotek's new VMS (Video Management Solution) that offers quick setup, AI functionality, and a variety of features / improvements to the original VAST 2 system.

It comes avaliable in 3 editions -
VSS Lite (a free to use, entry-level version for basic surveillance needs)
VSS Standard (a cost effective version, with more features, fit for small to mid-sized applications)
VSS Professional (the most expensive version, with all available features. Ideal for mid to large-scale deployments)

When comparing VAST 2 to VSS I am going to focus on the specs / features of VSS Pro, as this is the version that paying VAST 2 customers will be able to migrate to.

Overall, VSS offers the same features that VAST customers are already familiar with, while also featuring a selection of capabilities that were previously only avaliable as add-on licences (like TCP message, or Data magnet), alongside AI functions like Deep Search, and support for Recording encryption and Pre-defined User roles.

How to Migrate to VSS:

Moving over to VSS only takes a few steps, and is a simple switchover for exisitng VAST customers. Vivotek ask that users migrate between March 10th - August 31st 2023.
This will require:

1 - Back up VAST 2 config and REQ file
2 - Upgrade to VAST 2 v2.13
3 - Activate all VAST 2 camera licences before June 30th 2023
4 - Install and Migrate to VSS
5 - Transfer Licence
6 - Activate VSS Professional
For a more detailed explaination please refer to Vivotek's 'How to Migrate to VSS' instruction manuals.

For new users there are 3 options to choose from:

- VSS Lite is free to use and comes with 32 complimentary camera licences (which only support Vivotek models). This edition however does not support a wide range of features, and is instead restricted to basic surveillance capabilities. This is the ideal choice for entry-level users with only basic surveillance needs.

- VSS Standard is the cost-effective option, though not free to use, it makes up for its price with the inclusion of additional features, like AI capabilities, such as Deep Search, and support for substations (NVRs). VSS std also offers 8 complimentary camera licences, and is the ideal choice for users in need of a system for small to mid-size surveillance deployments.

- VSS Professional is the most expensive option, with support for all avaliable VSS features. This is the edition that current paying VAST 2 users will migrate to, and is ideal for mid to large-scale surveillance deployments. VSS Pro also features support for up to 700 substations, and over 22,000 cameras in a system (320 per server)

Vivotek also offer a 60-day trial.
