As part of their new range, ACTi have released a new line of indoor cube cameras. The E12 is a 3MP indoor cube camera. use-IP feel that this is a great product that will suit any home or small business that requires good quality footage. It offers great value too, being cheaper than the now 'end of life' 1MP cube camera from ACTi (the TCM-4201).

This compact and lightweight camera has some great features. The 3MP camera can shoot 15fps at 2048 x 1536 and althought it does not have night vision it can see at a minimum illumination of 0.1 LUX. This camera also has 2-way audio, motion detection and is powered by PoE which is the preferred method used by 95% of our customers.

This product is now available from the use-IP webshop.

ACTi has released 3 different cube cameras in varying megapixels:
As with ACTi's other ranges, these cameras are almost identical in look, shape and feel.

See us unbox the E12 below:

This camera is perfect to mount in the corner of a room, above a door, to the ceiling or in almost any position or indoor scene you can imagine. Simple installation consists of 3 screws to hold the mount onto the surface and then screwing the camera on. As said before, this camera uses PoE which makes the setting up process even easier; all you have to do is connect the ethernet cable into the rear of the device. Here are some images to familiarise you with the stand and rear of the device:

As with all our ACTi cameras, we recorded our footage for this device using the free ACTi NVR 3 software that works with every ACTi camera. This software allows you to view and record up to 16 channels (free of charge, with paid-for options for further cameras) and comes with iPhone and Android applications. You can also connect non-ACTi ONVIF devices but they will charge license fees for this function.

The web application allows you to configure all the settings, watch live footage, set up separate streams and take snapshots. We used the web application to take a full resolution screen shot to show the sort of quality you can expect. You can view the full resolution image here(2048 x 1536), or there is a smaller image below, just click to enlarge (1024 x 768).

We also have some sample footage of this camera in action in our office:

In conclusion I feel that this a great camera for home or a small office space. The camera has a very high resolution and has a wide view, which means that one or maybe two of these is all that you would need to cover a medium size office space. The price is perfect for the mid-product in ACTi's new range; in comparison to its sibling cameras the 1MP is currently £33 cheaper and the 5MP is £34 more. In my personal opinion I would rather pay the extra money to get the 5MP camera as it isn't a great deal more money for the extra quality. But if you are looking for a good quality mid-range indoor cube camera then this is the one for you!
