Hi folks, I’m looking for some help with the below please:

I have a Hikvision DVR which is:
DS-7204HQHI-K1

According to the online manual on the Hikvision website, it states that it can be linked to my home WiFi by using a dongle/adapter. At the moment there is no WiFi option showing, so is there a way to activate this?

Current firmware is v3.5.37 Build 180928 and when I click ‘check update’ it states ‘’no new version detected. The current version is the latest.’’

It’s currently connected to my internet router via an ethernet cable but this is proving to be a trip hazard!

I already have a usb 2.0 802.11n wireless dongle/adapter from the brand ‘Plugable’ so if I could utilise that, that would be great.

Thank you

The WiFi option is only available in some firmwares so it may not be possible even if you were to update to the latest available version for your model. When I have tried the WiFi it was a bit flakey using the dongle I tried. Hikvision have brought out their own dongle.

It would be easier just to use a TP-Link TL-WR802N travel router. Takes 2 minutes to set up:
  • Plug it into the rear USB of the DVR or a USB adaptor
  • Join the TP-Link WiFi network on a PC or phone
  • Create a password
  • Select Quick Start
  • Select your WiFi network and enter its password
  • Select 'Client' as the mode
  • Select 'Smart IP'
  • Plug the connector into the network port of the DVR
