Hi everyone,

I noticed I couldn’t connect to my Hikvision DVR/NVR remotely, so I checked it in person and found it completely unresponsive. There’s no sound from the hard drive – it seems totally dead. The unit itself is cold to the touch, whereas it’s usually slightly warm.

I tried switching the power button at the back off and on, but nothing happens. There’s no output on the connected monitor either. From what I understand, the device should at least power up to display the Hikvision menu, but even that isn’t working.

I replaced the HDD around six months ago, so I’m unsure whether that could be the issue again. I’ve attached a video showing the LED behaviour on the front of the DVR/NVR.

Any ideas on what might be causing this?

Just for further info, the original failed hard drive was replaced with this: Seagate SkyHawk AI 10TB 3.5" Internal AV/CCTV Hard Drive (ST10000VE001)

The video isn't playing for me but I'd guess that the power supply has failed. There could well be voltage there so the DVR starts to power up (you might see the LEDs blink), then the voltage drops out when the there's too much load for the faulty PSU to output so it powers down again. Rinse and repeat ad infinitum.

Should I just replace the PSU? Which is essentially just the cable and the brick/adapter/transformer?

That would be the first thing I'd try. I have had a few go south over the years.

Just find a power supply with similar spec on Amazon. If it's not the power supply at fault at least you can send it back without issue.
