Hello all. had a thunderstorm yesterday, took out our security system. Monitor kaputt but NVR still sort of works.

New monitor and the cameras (3 x hard wired - not over wifi) show no picture and the monitor screen has images of "no link" flashing on and off at varying intervals of .5 sec to 5 sec.

Has this happened to anyone else? We reckon the NVR is gone and the other question was - is the HDrive still probably OK?

Turned NVR on and the red light was flashing for data to Hdrive. That is a good sign. The model is DS - 7608NI - 12/P.

Hi @ray

Are all 3 cameras plugged directly into the PoE ports on the NVR? If they are, are any of the lights on the PoE ports being used lit up?

In regards to the HDD, if you go into Storage > Storage Management > HDD Detection > S.M.A.R.T Settings

Once on this page select the Self-test type as Short Test and click Start Self-test.

If the HDD fails this short test then that would confirm a faulty HDD and you will need to purchase a new HDD, if it passes the test then the HDD is probably fine but you might need to format it to start using it again (but you'll only know that if you can get the cameras back online).

OK, did some investigations and would like to inform all of the outcomes.
1/ Screen blown, got another screen - works good
2/ 5m HDMI lead replaced but old one seems OK
3/ Looks as if 2 HDMI tails with boosters in back of wall plates are damaged - appears to be the cause of screen on and off
4/ NVR damaged - inspection revealed some little black bit on card marked D41
5/ Of 3 cameras, the small black bullet works in ports 1,2 and 3. Another works only in port 1 and the third does not work at all. The error comes up as "Capacitance is too high". Not sure what that means so if anyone can help on that front, that would be good. Suspect internal damage and will get a new camera and see if the old one can be repaired.
6/ Tested Cat 6 cables - all good. And by the way, we are not on the wifi system and all cameras are hard wired with runs of over 150 metres. Sometimes we had slight pixelations (at night) but 99% of the time, great pictures.
7/ No problems changing 3Tb drive
8/ Having a few issues resetting alarm but getting cameras up and running is priority.
Next step is to take old NVR and camera in for possible repairs. And by the way, got a call from Brisbane from some Hikvision supplier, problems all down the east coast due to lightning.

Managed to get photo attached. Please note damage on D41 and discolouration of board around area.
