I’m quite new to this but here goes …a few questions

Up until now my 7608ni has been recording continuously (blue line) and I was advised to change it to event .
So I enabled event, and ticked the 2 boxes person and vehicle… so I’m assuming that it will now only record when a camera sees a vehicle or person .. am I right . ?
And what would trigger a recording if I still had event on but unticked vehicle and person ?
And how does this setting differ from motion recording and why would you use one over another ?

Hope it makes sense !

Possibly, it's not obvious where you configured it. You’ve possibly just enabled and configured an event which alone will not alter the recording (which is scheduled as 24/7 by default). The triggered event will just be marked on the recording timeline and be logged by the NVR. If you want it only to record on event you configure the recording schedule.

With the boxes checked an event will be filtered according to the selection Human and/or vehicle (it’s not perfect but does cut down on other triggers). With the boxes unchecked any movement can trigger the event - leaves, shadow, rain etc,

Motion detection is most sensitive - even when set to human, birds and animals will trigger it as you cannot alter the required target size.Line crossing/intrusion can be further filtered by object size, target validity.

There’s little benefit to recording on event only other than saving disk space. It’s far better to record 24/7 and use the events to mark the video for easier searching.
