G3 ColorVu Cameras - First Impressions/Review

Thanks. When I looked for several models 2347, 2147 in the range, only the older build was there. I guess it'll appear shortly on the other pages.

Edit: It's showing for all the 8MP models but not the 4MP as yet. I'll load it anyway...
Getting a file type mismatch on my DS-2347G3-LIS2UY/SL models. I'll wait until I see link on that models page...

Ah ok. Maybe specific fix for certain types and hence no version increment.
I’m holding out upgrading until 20x7g3 with 4mm are available. (Or newer cam launched by then. Like the easyip 4plus accusense vario focal mini bullets on the global site - only if the sensor was bigger)

One thing to note is that the G3 models have different firmware for the 4 and 8 megapixel models:

DS-2CD2x47G3 - H13U platform - 5.8.10_250123
DS-2CD2x87G3 - H13 platform - 5.8.10_250605

That explains why the newer build of 5.8.10 gave me a file mismatch when attempting an update.

JB... overall, would you now choose the 4 or 8 MP camera?

Difficult to say. I've not had hands on with the 8MP G3. I had been intending to upgrade all of cameras to the G3s but held back as while the image is undoubtably better than the previous generation, I'll not buy more unless the audio issue is resolved.

One of the two cameras I fitted is now displaying ‘flash high-speed write protect 454 minutes’. What exactly that means or WTF I’m expected to do is uncertain. I guess I’ll find out in just under 8 hours…..

Nothing happened it just disappeared at time out. I thought maybe there was a button had to be pressed regularly like in ‘Lost’ to prevent destruction.

Hello and congrats for this amazing community. It seems that this article is spot on for my current situation.

Last week in ordered 2x DS‑2CD2387G2-LU and I received 2x DS‑2CD2387G2H-LIU

I specifically wanted the G2-LU model for the larger sensor and I returned the G2H.

The supplier came back to me offering 2x DS‑2CD2387G3‑LIS2UY/SL claiming that the model I ordered is discontinued.

My top priority is superior image quality and I consider the larger sensor crucial. My backyard has some ambient lighting but I was completely disappointed with the noise I see in the reviews in this thread about G3, for such an expensive camera this amount of noise seems a big disappointment.

Then I read your overall feedback @JB1970 and I see that you believe that G3 (overall) has “undoubtably” better image.

I read the feedback about the audio issue, let’s assume and consider this a software bug for now that will be fixed, hopefully.

Would you consider G3 over G2 a good buy then, preferred over G2 ?

Thank you !

Correct. The G2 with 1/1.2” sensor has been superseded by the G2H.

It’s not that noticeable unless you’re pixel peeping. I’m comparing the new G3 4MP with a G2 8MP so not really an old for new comparison.

I hope so. I’ve not seen anyone else complain about it but it affects both of mine.

Yes

@JB1970 thank you so much for taking the time to reply to my post. Your feedback is very helpful.

regarding the video noise, I was referring to the images and video footage posted by @Kyle , these are both 8MP cameras 2387G2 and 2387G3 and to my eyes the G2 produces less noise and blur compared to the newer G3 model.

From my research and with G2 being discontinued, at this price range, the hikvision 2387G3 seems to be the leader in the market, please correct me if I’m wrong.

Lastly, from reading the hybrid term definition I understand that the colorvu technology can be utilised during the night without the white lights on, if the ambient lighting is good enough. I plan installing some lights in my backyard and I don’t want the white lights to be turned on and at the same time I want colourful image.

Thank you

I’ve not looked at that video but IIRC the cameras were viewing through a window and were at default settings. Any camera will need image settings adjusting to get the best out of it. I doubt you will be able to make an accurate comparison without trying one yourself.

It’s the most up to date in that range but no-one could say whether it’s the market leader. There are other options with additional features at a higher price.

The ColorVu setup doesn’t really differ from the previous model. You can disable the white light if you don’t want it to come on, but you’ll need sufficient light to get an acceptable image without it, or you’d have to set a longer exposure time to compensate for the lack of light (resulting in increased unwanted motion blur)

The Hybrid term relates to the camera having both infra red and white LED illuminators built in, allowing a choice between 24/7 colour, nighttime mono or smart operation (where the nighttime mono image will switch temporarily to colour when an event is detected). Those settings can be switched directly from the Hik-Connect app without needing to access the configuration.

Well, the "Flash high-speed write protect" message is back again. Looking through the playback this just appeared with "12 minutes remaining". Previously it counted down from about 14 hours (expressed in minutes). I'm not sure whether the camera is just knackered after a couple of months or this is some bug. An internet search reveals nothing:

Are you using an sd card ? The message could be referring to the storage media that the camera is recording to.

I ordered 2x 8MP G3 and I’m waiting them soon.

No - this camera has no SD card so I can only assume that the message relates to the cameras built in flash storage. I'll contact the suppliers technical support early next week and will return it if the cause cannot be explained.

New firmware released for the 4MP models (H13U platform) 5.8.13_250715.

The audio issues remain after upgrade.

Hello,

Thanks for your posts to have more true information about new version.

I want to swtich camera DS-2CD2387G2 1/1.2 sensor colorvu(gen2 version1) 8MP 1/1.2 to new version with ir mode too.
Maybe i have the good gen?

So in the past the G2(version1) 8MP 1/1.2 have been switched to G2(version 2) with 1/1.8 senssor why retrogade ?

But i don't know why the new gen G3 colorvu3 (gen3) camera have also a 1/1.8 inch sensor instead the old with 1/1.2, it's a retrogade evolution why ?
Same if have more algorythm to improove quality why Don't keep the last best size 1/1.2 sensor because it's better to have good hardware before try to switch more quality by algorithms.

Or maybe the G3 use other 1/1.8 cmos chips that are better than old G2(version1) 1/1.2 sensor ?

Someone have a true comparaison with 8MP 4K old version G2 1/1.2 and new version G3 DS-2CD2387G3 1/1.8 in low light condition in color mode ?

Best regards.

Howdy JB... How did the "Flash high-speed write protect" message/error/bug play out?

Evening JB , wondering if you or anyone else for that matter could advise me on the best way to combat this problem is to have with my G3. Ive only noticed it these past few weeks with the dark nights rolling in now.

How would you best get around having a good picture with both my outside lights on and off, or is it going to be a case of you cant and have to manually change it every time?

Here is a picture of what it is like with my lights on , and off , Thanks.
