We all know how easy it is to forget passwords and it can be a real hassle resetting them on Hikvision cameras, especially if they are connected directly to an NVR.
But, if you plan to move your cameras to another location, NVR, or if you just need to access them directly to carry out a firmware update, you will need to know what its password it.
Luckily, there's a little-known feature on the local GUIs of each NVR which allows you to view all of the connected cameras.
The below steps and videos will walk you through how to use this feature on the NVR 4 E-UI, NVR 4.0, and NVR 5.0 interfaces, which are the most commonly found on Hikvision NVRs now.
As this feature is only available on the local GUI, and not in a web browser, there are a few things you will need to do before starting:

- Make sure you have a display connected to your NVR's HDMI or VGA port.
- Ensure that you have a mouse connected to one of its USB ports (you can also connect a keyboard to make life easier).
- Have your NVR's admin password ready.
Steps for the NVR 4 E-UI local GUI...
- Using your mouse, right-click anywhere on the screen and then click on Menu.
- Open the Configuration menu by clicking on the cog icon at the top of the screen.
- Click on Camera in the left-hand pane, which will take you to the IP Camera settings page.
- Here, you will see a Show Password button above the list of connected cameras - click this.
- Enter your NVR's admin password in the popup and then click OK.
- All of the connected cameras' passwords will be revealed in the Camera Password column on the far-right hand side of your list of cameras.
- The button you clicked during step 4 will now say Hide Password - when you have finished checking the passwords, click this so that they're not visible to anybody else.
Steps for the NVR 4.0 local GUI...
- Using your mouse, right-click anywhere on the screen and then click on Menu.
- Open the Camera menu by clicking on the camera icon at the top of the screen.
- This will take you straight to the the IP Camera settings page - in the top-right hand corner, you will see a button with three lines running through it which will switch the layout from the current grid view to List View, click on this.
- Once in List View, you will see a new tickbox at the top of the page that says Show password - click this.
- Enter your NVR's admin password in the popup and then click OK.
- All of the connected cameras' passwords will be revealed in the Password column, which is the fifth along in your camera list.
- Untick the Show Password tickbox again when you have finished so that they're not visible to anybody else.
Steps for the NVR 5.0 local GUI...
- Using your mouse, right-click anywhere on the screen and then click on Exit Full Screen.
- Open the Device Access menu at the top of the page - if you don't see it right away, you might need to click on the button with four squares to open the main menu and find it in here.
- This will take you straight to the the Channel settings page where you will see a new tickbox above your list of cameras that says Show password - click this.
- Enter your NVR's admin password in the popup and then click OK.
- All of the connected cameras' passwords will be revealed in the Password column, which is the eighth along in your camera list.
- Untick the Show Password tickbox again when you have finished so that they're not visible to anybody else.
