[Long range 300m] Hikvision Intercom DS-KD8003 + 2x keypad?

Hi everyone,

I’ve just purchased a smart intercom that needs to be installed about 280 meters from the house, and I also need both an external and internal keypad for opening the driveway gate. I'm using a Hikvision UTP Cat 5e copper cable, but the signal is quite weak: the intercom turns on and powers the keypads correctly, but when I try to use it, the video often doesn’t appear, and the audio is delayed or unstable.

I tested everything with a 2-meter cable, and in that case, the system works perfectly, including control through iVMS. However, before laying down the 270 meters of LAN cable, I want to make sure the system will work as expected, as I don’t want to waste the spool. As a backup, I’ve also purchased a fiber optic cable, but I’d prefer to start with LAN. I’m not sure who to contact for splicing the fiber, and I’d like to avoid using a media converter at the gate due to potential issues like rain, condensation, and other environmental factors that could affect its functionality.

Does anyone have experience or suggestions for a similar installation? Thanks a lot in advance!

The problem is the cable, cat5 is the worst you could chose for 280 distance.

Okay your PoE switch supports Long range PoE transmission but once you turn that on the bandwidth on that line will drop to 10mb/s. And considering its cat5 you will lose even more of that 10 mb/s.

If you have an option i would replace cat5 with either cat6 or even 7. But best case scenario would be fiber with new switches.

Cheers,

Thanks for the reply!

I have chosen a 2-fiber fiber optic cable; do you think it would be suitable? Which converter would you recommend to install outside the house? It must be placed inside a closed pillar, but it will be exposed to humidity and insects, so it is not completely watertight.

You could have gone with single mod as well(cheaper), does not matter. You don't need converter , you can go with 2 new switches that support SFP and get yourself a SFP module that goes at each end. Then you dont need converter from fiber to cat

If im not mistaken, since you have 2 optic lines, you will go with same moduels on both sides, one line is for tx and other for rx. If you use single optic line then each side has to have a different frequency, aka different module so tx and rx can work without interrupting each other.

I also need to say that door station lock 12V output will most likely not work and you will need to add external PS over door station relay to trigger elock.

I would use a single fiber optic for the video intercom. Can I also carry the internet signal with the same fiber (one for the intercom and one for the internet)?

yes ofc thats why you will have 2 switches on both ends. Internet will be connected to lets say Port 1(switch1), fiber will push it across to switch 2 and port1 will be door station

Media converter's will give you additional 4 points of failures. Both media coverters + their PS

Less maintenance with better switches and fiber modules. Ill let you know tomorrow.

If you going to use 3rd party switch, hikvision fiber modules might not work. They had problems in the past with 3rd party.

so these mikrotik might not work?

Try out and let me know. I just said 3rd party might not work with hikvision fiber modules.

I don't know, which one is more suitable for the cable I bought and to also carry the internet signal?

With no disrespecting at all, but wouldn't it be better for you to hire a installer that deals with fiber so he can lay down network for you ,so you can finish intercom?

Can you tell me what fiber cable exactly it is? There should be marking or label, write it here. Then i will tell you which would be best to go with.

OP-DZ-XOTKTCD-2

I have to save money because I have a lot of expenses in this period, if I can't do it by myself I'll call an installer :(

is there an industrial hikvision sfp switch that also has wifi?
if you use mikrotik and a non-hikvsion fiber module, would the intercom work?
