I had an electriq nvr with 960p cameras, the nvr is no longer working so replaced it with a hikvision nvr. When connecting the old cameras to it there is no activity on the ports and no power to cameras. Tried manual settings with cameras correct ip and port, but nothing. Cables all ok. Cameras are about 5yrs old, would I need more power via a switch or are some cameras just not compatible.

There is a POE standard, but not all kit of all ages complies.
Your mention of 960p raises a concern.
It's not a standard IP camera resolution.
And, only IP cameras would use POE.
NVRs are used with IP cameras.
DVRs are used with analogue cameras.
Do your cameras and recorder have RJ45 network connectors OR do they use co-ax cable and push & twist round BNC connectors?
