Hi All,

Looking to set up a simple NVR for short range protection, so seems something like the Hilook NVRs and the 2mp IPC-T221H cameras shoud easily meet our needs ?

Have seen these two recorders which are both about the same price, but its hard to say which is the better one ?
Can see that the Black one has H265 space-saving encoding but unsure about most other parameters and if they really matter to us ?

Also interested to know how noisey they are as gather some have fans fitted, though not sure if they run all the time ?

Would appreciate an cyoment on either unit - pdfs / datasheets below.

Hi Look/Hi Watch are Hikvisions budget offering aimed at the consumer market. I'm not familiar with those models however I'd guess that the H265 model is the more up to date of the two as it would be unusual to find a modern NVR that didn't support H265.

With regard to the fans. If those particular models have them they will run 24/7. Whether the noise would bother you depends on the individual - I've had customers who've not mentioned it and I've had others that have asked whether it's possible to relocate the NVR is they find it unbearable. If fitted they are usually just a 40mm fan with a 2 pin connection to the main PCB and can be swapped out for a quieter one. There are plenty available for about £10 or £15 on Amazon (Noctua or Scythe Mini Kaze). They claim to be silent and generally they are until you fit the lid back on the NVR - then you realise that 80 percent of the fan noise was not the fan itself but the noise of the air being pushed through the holes in the enclosure. If in doubt fit the NVR out of the way and use a longer HDMI connection and wireless mouse for control.

Thanks JB,

Appreciate your insightful comment and that this site is really for the more high end systems/selling , but have not found anywhere else for such help, even Hikvison do not seem to have a user forum, but this site always comes top of the list when searching for one.
