Video intercom unable to support gate opening and closing

Hi, I recently renovated my house and the electrician help me installed a set of home video intercom ( one indoor unit and one outdoor camera.( Hikvision). Apparently it should support the main gate opening and closed function but was told by the electrician that my gate control box is unable to support such functions. And that I can only open/ closed the gate using gate remote.Is that true? I tried asking around but no one seems to know the problem. Any experts here can help?
