Hello all,

I run a business on a busy High Street and currently use a Hikvision DS-7616NI-I2/16P with 12 × 8MP cameras (4 of them are AcuSense). I’ve had this NVR since 2017 and, with it getting tired and lacking updates, I’m now looking to replace it.

I’ve been considering the M Series because its higher incoming bitrate of 256 Mbps seems like it could be beneficial. However, I’m also looking at the I / VPro series, but I noticed its incoming bandwidth is 192 Mbps, which makes me unsure which would be better for my needs.

Key points for my setup and plans:

  • I prioritise highest possible image quality.
  • If 8K cameras become more available, I will upgrade some of my cameras.
  • I plan to add an ANPR camera and a PTZ camera in the future, bringing my total to 14 cameras.

Given these requirements, which NVR series/model would you recommend?
Any advice on future-proofing for higher resolutions and specialised cameras would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

It's a good question. The DS-7616NI-M2/16P is the direct replacement for the DS-7616NI-I2/16P with far superior performance. I made the same switch when the M series was released and did a little 'first impressions' post on here. However I'm expecting to swap out my M in the next week or so as soon as I can get my hands on the DS-7616NXI-I2/16P/VPro. The reason is that the NXI models have AcuSearch which could be handy, and the V/Pro adds AcuSeek which I'd like to try out. I'm only running 10 cameras and a few are 4MP so even with maxed out settings, the slightly lower bandwidth of the Vpro shouldn't affect me. In your case, if you've been happy with the I series and had no issues related to incoming bandwidth, the Vpro is still better than what you have.

Really your decision will come down to features (Vpro) vs outright performance (M). In a domestic usage situation those features on the Vpro may not get used. You don't say what your business is, but I can imagine that the search features in the Vpro would make it a compelling choice for anyone running a retail business, where you may want to search for a specific person or search by a description.

Thank you for your advice. I would go with the M Series, but my only concern is that it has already been out for three years, and I don’t want to end up with an NVR that gets discontinued within a year of purchase. It’s a shame that the DS-7616NXI-I2/16P/VPro doesn’t have the same incoming bandwidth as the M Series. Have you received your VPro yet? If so, I’d really appreciate it if you could share your thoughts on it once you’ve had a chance to try it.

Unfortunately the date keeps shifting for delivery. Currently it's next week. Once fitted I will share my thoughts.

I do wonder what will happen with the standard M. I believe there's an NXI version of the M available in some countries but not here (UK). Perhaps we might see that here eventually or an M version of the 7616 VPro.

Ah sorry mine is 8ch no 16ch...
No idea what we'll get in UK....Apparently these are available next week:

But no mention of the non /P models and definitely no M version :-(

well UK is tad different market than EU, we have already seen with HPP packages before.

True. I'm seeing whether I can get an M2 VPro shipped from an EU supplier otherwise I'll have to go with the I2 for now

That would require buying from 2nd hand. As distributers have to enforce fair play policy by hikvision. No Selling outside their country.
