I have a Hikvision DS-2CD5546G0-IZHS camera that has been working fine for a couple of years with zero issues, until sometime yesterday when it suddenly lost focus. Focus controls work, but can't fix that. Here's a video of what happened if it helps (
). Externally, the camera is looking good and functioning properly, but everything is out of focus. What happened and why? Is it fixable?

I’m not sure why it happened but you need to check the autofocus setting in the cameras web menu. It can be set to manual, auto or semi-auto. The preferred would be semi-auto where the focus only readjusts when the zoom is adjusted. On auto it will adjust if an object moves in front of the camera which is usually undesirable.

I have a few HikVision ANPR cameras with the motorised zoom (which your camera has).

Like @JB1970 already said you need to check the focus setting (my cameras web interface it's in Configuration -> Image -> Focus).

If this setting is auto you can get the camera to "re-auto" focus by changing it to "manual" then changing it back to "auto".

Sometimes the focus settings get's confused if the lens gets wet or dirty or whatever and it sometimes sorts itself out later but sometimes it does not.

You would think that setting it to "manual" after it's 100% in focus would be all you need to do but in my experience the camera STILL does some re-focusing itself if it gets foggy/wet/dirty etc. Who knows why...

If it's not changing focus at all then the motor may have broken.
