16ch NVR selection - Hikvision iDS vs DS / M-Series?

Hi Guys

I'm looking at installing a 16ch system on a large-ish house. Looking at a high spec system with future proofing, going through the options this leads me to the iDS-7716NXI-M4/16P/X

Question is though, is the iDS system really worth the extra and how does this compare to the DS-7716NI-M4/16P

Is there justification in doubling the price of the NVR?

For a residential system, we would go with the DS-7716NI-M4/16P NVR because it will give you everything you need and the iDS- model won't offer you many more features that you will actually use for a residential install.

Hi Dan Thanks for the speedy reply. Just a couple of other questions:

What would features would be lost by going down to the DS from the iDS?

And what DarkVue would you recommend? I take it there's (just about) enough bandwidth to run 16x 8MP

We don't know the nitty-gritty of the differences between these models because we've had minimal experience with the DeepinMind NVRs (their high price means they are not that popular) but from looking at the specs the main differences are that the DeepinMind iDS- NVR will support more high-resolution cameras (e.g. beyond 8MP) and will allow you to apply some facial recognition features to a limited number cameras.

From our experience with most residential installs, they don't require cameras with greater resolution than 8MP and facial recognition has limited benefits when set up at home (seeing as it requires a facial library to work properly and therefore is more designed for business/industrial systems).

In regards to cameras, we would probably recommend the DS-2CD2387G2H-LIU and technically you should be able to run 16 x 8MP cameras, but you might need to reduce some stream settings (e.g. fps, video quality, etc...) because at max. settings the 8MP Hybrid Light cameras will use around 20Mbps each and if you times that by 16 it will exceed the NVRs incoming bandwidth limit of 256Mbps.
