DS-2CD2186G2-ISU - playback preview issues

Hi all,

I have one Hikvision DS-2CD2186G2-ISU camera at home, nothing fancy. No NVR just an SD Card in the camera itself. The camera overlooks the driveway of my property.

Camera is running the latest firmware (to the best of my knowledge) - V5.5.820 build 231108

I normally view footage (I have line crossing detection & basic motion detection set up for recording) on my iPhone 12 Pro Max running iOS 26.0.1

Recently I've noticed that the recorded line crossing events are being captured and the preview thumbnails in the Hik-Connect app are displaying so no issues there. But when I look at the 'playback' events for basic motion detection the captured footage has no thumbnails. I've attached a photo.

What I've tried so far:

1. Complete uninstall of the Hik-Connect app from my iPhone, rebooting the iPhone and then reinstalling the app. I'm using the latest version of the app - 6.10.822.20250923.3
2. Rebooting the camera
3. Changing the DNS of the camera - I have the camera pointing to my pihole DNS servers so at first I thought Pihole might be blocking the thumbnails from the playback previews but even after changing the DNS to an upstream server such as Cloudflare and Google the previews still aren't showing
4. Reinstall of the latest firmware
5. A complete factory reset of the camera

I'm now at a complete loss - I've attached a screenshot of the Hik-Connect app from my iPhone. Can anyone help?

None of the above worked

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks all.

I wouldn't spend any time on it. The issue is the Hik-Connect app, the thumbnails don't work and haven't for some time. The current version of Hik-Connect for iOS (6.10.822) has various issues. Usually app updates come along fairly rapidly but this version is 3 weeks old now. See post:

Thanks mate. It's frustrating to learn that the thumbnails haven't worked for some time. You'd of thought that the dev's would've addressed this by now.

Yeah agreed. It's the usual 2 steps forward, 1 back unfortunately. Changes are made and features added that aren't necessarily wanted, and things get broken during that process. For example in 6.9.x for those viewing continuous recording you could filter playback all or any combination of human, vehicle, event; now you have to pick just one. Playback is hit and miss too - dragging the timeline forward to a point is fine, but when you drag it back it just snaps back to the previous time selection. I've reported a few issues to Hikvision Support but they won't acknowledge it's an issue. I'm sure it'll get sorted eventually.
