Is there any definitive post or guide to this? I have seen various posts but still not been able to do what I want. I thought in the past that my NVR's / cameras were too old to support this sort of thing. But now I have an old NVR which shows Human/Vehicle options on the timeline (as does iVMS-4200), and my camera shows Human/Vehicle options and shows the "H_xxx" and "V_xxx" markers on the video. But seemingly I still can't see any colours on the timeline or search for Human/Vehicle.

I record constantly so this is not about recording certain events, I just want some colours on the playback timeline to aid reviewing/finding footage. I don't really mind if those colours are just "motion" or something more specific like Human/Vehicle - anything would be a start!

I have lots of NVRs/Cameras but for this example:
NVR DS-7732NI-I4 / 16P V4.61.025 build 220905
Camera DS-2CD2386G2-IU (G5) V5.7.18 240826

Camera config:
Motion Detection ENABLED
Enable Dynamic Analysis for Motion ENABLED
Human/Vehicle CHECKED
Notify Surveillance Center ENABLED

I've experimented with Intrusion Detection and Line Crossing Detection and I can see these things activate in Live View but still nothing shows on playback timeline (NVR native interface or iVMS-4200)...

I've only just noticed this post so I'm 3 weeks late with a response, but since no-one else answered....

For live view on the local UI/HDMI output that combination of NVR, camera and firmwares that you have should work. For it to show Human and/or Vehicle markers on the playback timeline:
  • Motion detection - should be enabled. However you MUST also enable the Human and/or Vehicle checkbox in the motion detection setup screen. This is the same for Line Crossing, Intrusion if you use them. You can't just click the Human/Vehicle icons on the playback screen; unless the boxes are checked in the specific event setup, the NVR is unaware of those events as the camera has not forwarded the metadata alongside the video stream.
  • Enable Dynamic Analysis for Motion - Doesn't matter. This can be useful if you switch on 'Rules' and want to display triggers but is not needed for the timeline markers.
  • Dual VCA - should be enabled on each camera
  • Save Camera VCA Data - should be checked. You may have to root around to find that on the local interface and it isn't on all models/firmwares. Usually it's in Storage > Advanced Settings. Without that turned on, the camera will send the VCA data to the NVR alongside the video stream but the NVR will just discard it (real helpful)
  • Notify Surveillance Center - Only affects push notifications to Hik-Connect platform
Now with all of the above checked:
  • In Normal Playback with no icons enabled you will see a solid blue timeline.
  • In Normal Playback with Human and/or Vehicle icon ticked, the timeline will instantly update to show those events. If, when you setup a specific camera you selected both Human and Vehicle filter, you'll be able to click Human, Vehicle or both during playback to filter. If like me you're only interested in Human events and selected just that in the event setup, the vehicle icon will have no function during playback.
  • In Normal Playback you can set it skip unrelated playback so that when you select Human/Vehicle it will skip between events.
  • In Event Playback the timeline should be permanently marked with those events.
Note - The Human/Vehicle filter will only display markers when it matches your event setup. If you have the motion detection covering your driveway, it will only show markers when a person is detected there. It won't mark someone walking down the road outside the pre defined area. To get around that I use a two stage setup. Motion detection is set to cover a wider area that includes the area outside of my property but 'Notify Surveillance Center' is disabled for that event. Line Crossing (or Intrusion) is set on my property only, but also has 'Notify Surveillance Center' enabled. That way I only get a push notification when someone is on my drive, but I can see all human activity on or off my drive during playback by clicking that Human icon. That makes it easier to locate events.

Note 2 - You won't get the Human/Vehicle filtering in the Hik-Connect app playback as that feature is only available on much newer firmware and the I series latest (and presumably final) version is 4.61.030_240123 (one version newer than yours)

Hope the above assists.

Edit: I notice you refer to 'Camera Config'. The events should be setup using the NVR interface not directly in the camera.

@JB1970 many thanks for the detailed response. But so far I still have had no luck! I don't really want or need intrusion detection or line crossing detection, although I have set those up below just to try and get some sort of events on the timeline. All I really wanted to do is have any and all "motion" events show on the timeline. If that's not possible then being able to jump to Human/Vehicle events on the timeline is 2nd best.

At the moment, I get a solid blue timeline, and if I click "Human" or "Vehicle" it says "Searching" for a few seconds but then nothing - no change at all. And that's before and after my changes as per below:

CAMERA (Web Interface):

Configuration -> Event -> Event and Detection -> Motion Detection
Enabled
Parameter Settings:
Enable Dynamic Analysis for Motion: Enabled
Configuration Mode: Normal Mode
Sensitivity: 60
Detection Target: Human & Vehicle both checked
Arming Schedule: Constant

VCA -> Intrusion Detection
Enabled
Detection Target: Human & Vehicle both checked
Threshold: 0 sec.
Sensitivity: 50
Target Validity: Basic
Arming Schedule: Constant

VCA -> Line Crossing Detection
Enabled
Detection Target: Human & Vehicle both checked
Direction A <-> B
Sensitivity: 50
Target Validity: Basic
Arming Schedule: Constant

Configuration -> Video/Audio -> Display Info. on Stream
Enable Dual-VCA: Was not enabled, NOW ENABLED.

VCA -> General Settings -> Metadata
ALL WERE DISABLED - I HAVE NOW ENABLED ALL:
Smart Event
Overlay Rule Frame and Target Frame
Enable Stream Rule
Sub Stream

VCA -> General Settings -> AcuSearch
WAS ENABLED - I TRIED WITH IT ENABLED AND DISABLED
Note says: "After the function is enabled, the ongoing smart application will be disabled while Smart Event or Multi-Target-Type Detection will be enabled."
Which makes not a lot of sense to me!

NVR (Web Interface):

Could not see/find any "Save Camera VCA Data" option on the web interface, it only shows on the native NVR interface! But it was enabled.

iVMS
I don't ever use iVMS "Event Center -> "Event Search" but currently it returns no events whatsoever.

Live View: I can see the intrusion detection and line crossing line, I can see they change red when something triggers them.

Live View: If "AcuSearch" is enabled I see the "H_xxx" and "V_xxx" markers on humans/vehicles.
Remote Playback: If "AcuSearch" is enabled I see the "H_xxx" and "V_xxx" markers on humans/vehicles.

Remote Playback - never finds or shows any Human / Vehicle events.

Hi @codlord

In ivms4200 goto Playback Camera Playback, press Play for your camera(through NVR camera list), right click on picture, select VCA Search Enable Motion Detection, then again right click on picture, select VCA config and move slider to sensitivity 3. Press OK

CAMERA (Web Interface):
Should be NVR (Web Interface). Set it all from the NVR web interface and not the Camera web interface.

Configuration -> Video/Audio -> Display Info. on Stream
Enable Dual-VCA: Was not enabled, NOW ENABLED.
That would prevent it from working. After enabling only events since enabling it would show.

@alfaclvi thanks for the tip - if I do what you said it does not seem to have any affect. Nothing changes, no change to timeline or searching.

@JB1970 thanks, I checked all settings again via NVR web interface. And I thought that it would only search for events since config changes. But all my tests were after looking at live view and seeing humans/vehicles go into the intrusion area and/or the line crossing (and them going from blue to red). Then going to Remote Playback and assuming it should now allow me to search or jump to those new/recent human/vehicle events in some way.

But still absolutely nothing!

I'm not sure what you mean by 'Remote Playback'. The steps I mentioned were for local playback on the screen attached to the NVR via HDMI (not browser playback). As said it will not work on the phone app as the firmware won't support it.

@JB1970 sorry, I was talking about via iVMS-4200.

I generally don't have easy access to the NVR themselves as most are on remote sites. However, the NVR on this topic is local so on the NVR interface itself I can now see some events. It's like this:

NVR Playback I have "Normal", "Smart" or "Custom"

Normal: The Key shows Blue Normal and Red Event. The timeline shows all blue. No events at all.

Smart (without Human/Vehicle options being selected: The Key shows Blue Normal and Red Event. The timeline shows mostly blue but FINALLY I am getting some red events. So a bit of success. Not sure which events these are but it's a start!

Smart (with Human and/or Vehicle options selected): The Key shows Blue Normal and Red Human & Vehicle. The timeline shows all blue. No events at all which I still don't understand given all the settings I set.

iVMS-4200 Remote Playback: still nothing. I am on 3.11.0.5 I just saw this other thread on a similar topic so maybe I need to try a later version?...

The first thing you could do, is to update your NVR firmware. Can't find this model, possibly because this is EOL, but you can possibly find the latest here which seems to be V4.61.030 Build240123. Maybe JB1970 can help you with that and also take care of not blacklisting your NVR on HikConnect servers, since lately we read many strange issues with that:

You could also rollback the camera to firmware v5.7.15 Build240411 and check again. I have done this many times after rolling back from v5.7.17, v5.7.18 240826 and today with v5.7.18_240924. But my cameras Platform Access for HikConnect is Disabled.

I was working on a DS-7732NI-I4/16P(B) with V4.61.030 Build240123 at the beginning of this year. The problem is "Save Camera VCA Data" that JB stated needs to be enabled. However, it's no where to be found on the web interface or nvr interface. I spent days trying to figure it out but it wasn't anywhere to be found. This really upset me because Hikvision claimed that the DS-7732NI-I4/16P(B) would be one of the I-series NVR's that would be getting this support. The non B variant was not listed being supported.

This NVR is unrelated but the information is somewhat relevant - I was also working on a DS-9664NI-M8 at the same time I was working on the DS-7732NI-I4/16P(B). I knew the DS-9664NI-M8 had to have this feature working since it was a new nvr. While I spent countless hours on the web interface of the NVR, I could not find the "Save Camera VCA Data." I then logged into the NVR interface and found it. Later with a FW update it became available on the web interface. With the latest FW it's now called "Save Smart Analysis Data of Camera"
