RTSP Streaming direct from the camera

When I saw the quad9 DNS on the VLC logs I did wonder why and then the penny dropped.

URL looks good, I wonder if that camera uses a non standard URL? -
Yeah, dont know. I reset the camera back to factory settings last week before i changed the IP and put it out on the internet

try downloading VLC onto a smartphone or tablet and try the URL on a 4G network with a good signal. This will bypass the firewall.
- I will try VLC on my android and see if that helps at all.

What version of VLC are you using? mine is 3.0.12 Vetinari for Mac. - Based on the errors in the post above were i posted the debug from VLC, i sorta think the issue is with how VLC passes through autentication and why digest doesn't work. Thats sorta why i tried downgraded the firmware to one that would give me the option to select digest/basic. I first watched a youtube video where the dude selected digest/basic and the rtsp stream came right up.

I have tried rtsp and vlc on my home machine, no vpn into work. So, that makes it 3 computers. All with new newest VLC version 3.0.16 Vetinari (windows) And the error in that debug log was showing live555 So, i might start looking into alternatives than VLC.

One thing i haven't brought up yet, is that part of my job is to manage our Milestone VMS system. We've got several hundred cameras. 99% of them are Axis. A majority of them 3708s that are $1600 bucks, and I have no issues with milestone or axis. I was just trying to change how this particular hikvision camera is setup and repurpose it. So, i googled this camera part # and its less than $650 bucks. I've already wasted that much money in my time the last 3 or 4 days. So, i might just call it quits and buy a new camera.

Makes sense.
VLC 3.0.16 Win10 works for me on LAN and via public IP. Debug log shows live555 as well. log attached. video playback was unstable due to poor wifi connection.

Did you try to disable https on the camera? make sure http port 80 is enabled.

Thanks, yeah, I just disabled https for good measure and ensured port 80 is set. No difference. Quite Frustrating. And then just reset all settings back to default, with exception of ip info and username/pw.

If this doesn't work. I'm going buy an Axis camera and toss this POS in the ocean.

Thanks again for all your time and insight.

@GetAfterIt don't blame you, firmware is old and probably buggy, I like Axis cameras bit pricey for personal use. good luck.
