Arming/disarming camera alarms only when away – is my NVR too old? (DS-7608NXI-I2/S(C))

Hi everyone,

I’ve recently resumed working on my home camera system.

My setup:
NVR: DS-7608NXI-I2/S(C)
Cameras: 4x DS-2CD2387G2P-LSU/SL

The NVR was purchased quite a while ago, but I only recently added the cameras. Everything is working fine overall, but I just realized the NVR is an older model and no longer receives software updates or new features.

There’s one specific feature I really need:
Arming and disarming camera alarms — ideally through Hik-Connect — so I only get notifications when I’m away from home.

I’ve updated both the NVR and the cameras to the latest available firmware, but I still don’t see any option to arm/disarm in the Hik-Connect app.

My questions:

1. Is this feature simply not supported on my NVR?
2. Has anyone managed to enable arm/disarm functionality with an older NVR / these cameras?
3. Do I really need to replace my NVR to get this feature?

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I'd say that it's not supported. The feature became available in relatively new firmware and if your NVR is no longer receiving updates it'll be on a version prior to it being intruduced.

So yes you'd probably need a newer NVR if that specific feature is needed.

Thanks! The only thing that bothers me is that in the official Live Guard demo video, they're using firmware version V4.40.010, while my NVR is already on V4.62.225.
It makes me wonder — could this be an issue with the newer version of the Android app instead?

No, there was a specific customised version of firmware that supported a Live card function some time ago and it didn't carry through to later versions of firmware. The newer models now have something similar but not quite the same (in that the customised version could be armed by NVR alarm input 1 I believe).

Some models now support arm, arm silent and disarm of individual cameras in Hik-Connect, or you can group cameras into Areas for ease. I have my 9 cameras in areas - Drive, Front, Garden, Rear so that I can individually turn notifications on and off through Hik-Connect. The latest M series firmware also allows you to schedule the arming/disarming in the app.

For the I series it's on the UK portal but not for your model. That demo probably shows the I series not yours.

No, you can't get push notifications, event clips etc without the cloud. Those features will be missing in the app when a device is added to Hik-Connect using its IP/Domain.
