Recording file format solution

I am looking for a solution for saving the recordings/archiving/schedule exporting in mp4/avi or an easy accessible format so that can transfer the recordings of the ip cams to any desired storage platform so that I can transfer it to any kind of storage hard drives, tape cartridges, discs as want to retain all the recordings for lifetime and maintain multiple copies of it by a VMS. Please help me to find a way out
