Replaced my old NVR - not picking up all my cameras?

Hello
i have replaced my old NVR for a hikvision 8 channel
On my old NVR I had 3 cameras ( 2x bullet 1 ptz), all were connected to the NVR via a POE injector. i then bought 2 new cameras (ptz) so needed a 8 channel NVR

Since changing my NVR I can only access the two new cameras, the 3 I had previously my new NVR picks them up but with a message saying network is unreachable please edit parameter . However when them 3 are plugged back into the old NVR they work and pick up fine.

SDAP only picks up 1 of the old cameras when it is plugged into the old NVR the 2 new cameras won't work on the old NVR *
(they used too ) and they won't connect to the web interface, so i can't alter the settings (audio output)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi @jacko02

What are the exact model numbers of the 3 old cameras?

When you say "all were connected to the NVR via a POE injector" do you mean that all 3 cameras were connected to PoE injectors that were then plugged directly into the PoE ports on the NVR or where the PoE injectors just connected to your local network/router?

Are 3 cameras connected to the new NVR in the same way as the old NVR?

What are the IP address and Gateway address of the one old camera that you can see in SADP?

hi dan
on the old nvr i used a poe injector (4 ports) for 3 cameras then a cat 6 cable to the nvr, with network cable to nvr, on the new nvr i connected the 3 old and 2 new cameras to ports on the nvr and network cable to nvr , they all said connected but only the 2 new cameras had a video, attached is a photo when i connected 2old cameras and 2 new cameras to poe injector the adress192.168.1.166 is one of the old cameras the other 2 are new cameras i have tried to change the 2new camera addresses but get message saying timed out, the2 new cameras won't connect to the web 20220315_100129.jpg

Ok, you had a very strange setup with the previous NVR but I think I understand what is going on.

Somehow you had the 3 old cameras connected directly to the NVR via a PoE switch but set to your local network IP range (192.168.1.xxx), I assume you probably did this by plugging the switch into the NVR LAN port rather than the PoE ports.

But now on the new NVR, you want to plug all the cameras directly into PoE ports. When plugged into the PoE ports on the NVR the cameras need to use the NVRs subnet IP range (192.168.254.xxx), this IP range is not visible outside of the NVR which is why you can't log in to the 2 new cameras from your local network. (If you enable Virtual Host in the NVR settings you can log in to the directly connected cameras)

For the 3 old cameras I would recommend that disconnect them from the NVR, plug the PoE switch that you used previously directly into your local network (e.g. straight into the router or another network access point, not the NVR), and then plug the 3 old cameras into that PoE switch.

If you then open SADP on a device that is also on the local network you should see all 3 cameras and then you can change each camera's network details to the subnet range of the NVR (e.g. change 192.168.1.166 to 192.168.254.10 and its gateway to 192.168.254.1 / assuming the 2 new cameras are the only ones that have been assigned subnet addresses you should be fine to assign the 3 old cameras as 254.10 / 254.11 /254.12)

Once you have changed the IP details of all 3 old cameras you should be able to reconnect them to the NVR and then you will need to go into the NVR settings, select the corresponding channel (e.g. PoE port 1 is D1), click edit, switch the channel from plug & play to manual, and then manually enter the cameras IP address, user name, and password before saving the settings.

Shortly after you change the channel settings the camera should connect and live view should be visible.

If your NVR is running the latest firmware it should support Virtual Host, the latest firmware for the K-series NVR is v4.32.116

On the latest firmware if you go to Configuration > Network > Advanced Settings > Other then you should see the option to 'enable virtual host'

Do you not have your NVR connected to the local network? You need to log in to the NVR with a browser to enable virtual host.

hi i have tried the help you suggested above with varying luck
For the 3 old cameras that i disconnect them from the NVR, i plugged them into the PoE switch
i then opened SADP i could only see 1 camera i changed that camera's network details to the subnet range of the NVR i then tried to enter the 2 new cameras with no joy so repeated the process i used for the older cameras and managed to change 1 so i could alter the audio settings but the other one kept saying timed out or device rejected, i have connected all cameras to the nvr and only the 2 new ones work but i can't alter the audio output on 1 of them the 3old ones show but ont work

Hi @jacko02

ok, this is all very mixed up and confused, let's take it one step at a time.

The PoE switch you connected the 3 old cameras to, was this switch plugged into your local network/router or plugged into one of the ports on the NVR?
The PC/Laptop that you were running SADP on, how was this connected to the local network? Wired directly to the router/switch, WiFi, or plugged into the NVR?
What are the exact model numbers of your 3 older camera models?

hi dan
The PoE switch was plugged into your local network. my pc was connected to the network directly

last night i managed to get one of the old cameras (jennov ptz) connected to the hikvision nvr. the other 2 cameras are securicam bullet cameras (see photo )

Are these the 2 cameras that are not showing in SADP?

If it is then it is likely because these are not Hikvision or Hikvision OEM cameras so the Hikvision SADP Tool won't be able to display them.

If you have a mix of 3rd-party cameras you will be best off using a 3rd-party IP tool like IP Scanner to look for all devices on your local network, using a tool like this you should be able to identify the IP addresses of these 3rd-party cameras, you can then login to each of these cameras by putting the IP address into a browser, and then in the camera network settings, you can change the network details to the NVR subnet range as described above.

yes they are the 2 not showing ( have a tool which shows them ) when i attach them to the nvr they get assigned a ip dress 192.168.254.xxx
one of the new cameras still has a audible alarm which activates every time there is movement but i can't access camera to switch it off,
the jennov camera i connected last night has to be connected to the nvr via POE switch or won't work (no lights at port )

i also have a red film disc sign on the live feed of 2 cameras ?

Just to confirm, are all the cameras you have non-Hikvision or rebadged/OEM Hikvision models?

I just want to check because if they are and you need to access camera-specific settings you are going to be better off keeping all the cameras on separate PoE injectors/switches rather than plugged into the PoE ports on the NVR because only Hikvision cameras support the virtual host feature to log in to directly connected cameras.

With 3rd-party cameras connected to separate PoE switches and set to local network addresses (192.168.1.xxx) you will have far more control of the cameras.

So you have 3 of the 5 cameras streaming to the NVR, it is likely the case that the remaining 2 still have network/IP address issues.

As I said above with such a mix of 3rd-party cameras and with the desire to use camera-specific settings like audio, smart events, advanced PTZ settings, etc... you would be better off keeping all the cameras on a separate PoE switch with their own dedicated IP addresses to access them directly.

hi
thanks for all your help i think i will buy a new hard drive and use the old nvr with the 2 cameras i can't get to work , have you any idea what the red sign is on the top right of live streams

many thanks
