Advice for a home CCTV DVR/NVR with 4 cameras?

Hello,

I’m looking to buy a CCTV system with 4 cameras for my house. Two front side (we have street lights) 1 for driveway (no street lights) and 1 for garden (no lights but will add sensor floodlight soon).

I had a Hikvision DVR installed previously which was taken without my permission by some burglars. (DVR-504-K1) with 4 old cameras wired with RJ45 cable (4wires).

We used to be flooded by notifications during nights whenever it was raining (Yorkshire), or animals like cats, fox, and flying insects crossed lines, entered in perimeters of interest etc..

HIK Vision and others makers have developed technologies which help to reduce the false alerts. So I’m looking for any DVR/NVR solution with such technologies.

i will really appreciate if you could help me to decide which will be better without being too much expensive.

Are the hybrid DVR good enough in reducing false alarms?
For instance an installer offered me the DVR iDS7204HUHI-M1/S with four 3k 6 MP colorvu cameras?
Or should I look for IP NVR ?
Which CCTV system would you recommend for my needs ?

Thank you very much

Ps : I apologise for any English language mistakes I could have done, I'm French speaker.

Hi @AntiBurglars

We have minimal experience with Hybrid DVRs but from a quick look at the Hikvision website, it appears this specific model is now obsolete/EOL and there are also some major limitations in terms of bandwidth and frame rate when connecting IP cameras to this DVR.

From our experience, Hybrid DVRs only make sense if you have existing analog cameras & COAX cabling, if you are building a completely new system and you already have network RJ45 cabling in place you are better off using an NVR and IP cameras.

We would recommend a DS-7604NXI-K1/4P(D) 4-Channel PoE 1U 4K K-Series AcuSense NVR and pair that with 4 x DS-2CD2347G2H-LIU 4MP Smart Hybrid Light Turret Cameras

@Dan

Thank you very much for your reply. Seems the NVR solutions are better but also a little bit more expensive. I received quote from différents installers there is around £600-£700 between DVR and NVR solutions.

Just another question can I plug analog cameras to a NVR or should I also replace all cameras by IP cameras ?

On average, how much cost a roughly same set of devices you are recommending ?

thanks.

Hi @AntiBurglars

It's not possible to connect analog cameras directly to an NVR, you can connect them using an Encoder but these are expensive and can have limitations.

If switching to an NVR, the most cost-effective option is to replace the analog cameras with network IP cameras.

We can't give you an exact price of what the NVR and cameras we recommended would cost, but IP products are generally more expensive than analog products because the technology/hardware is more advanced. So for the NVR and 4 cameras we've recommended above, you would be looking at around £750-£800.
