Does export and import of device and IP cameras parameters on the NVR web gui work reliably?

I'm trying to reset my NVR to factory settings (For some odd reason my cameras are not recording when motion recording is chosen. Only continuous works) but am afraid I might forget to enter some settings when setting up as new. Does the export/import function work reliably?

Early on I tried it myself and never got it to work on the cameras. I recall that several years ago there was a discussion about having to name the exported file in just a certain way, and maybe that it had to be placed on the root "C" drive before importing. Aside from attempting it a few times and failing I've never really tried to troubleshoot. Maybe one of the mods can help.
