Hello everyone , just wondering if anyone can help me out please , ive got a friend looking at updating his system and he is wanting 3x8MP smart hybrid G2. I see the 7608 NVR will do 2 chan@ 8mp , what would the video quality be like on the third camera ? Or am I reading it wrong a this only applies to the Accusense feature? If so , would the 7604 NVR be fine for 3X8MP ? thanks.

Hi @Smoggie89 ...

The DS-7608NXI-K1/8P NVR has 80 Mbps incoming bandwidth so it will be fine for 3x8MP smart hybrid G2 cameras...

The "2 chan@ 8mp" is decoding capability (it's actually 1 chan@8mp if AI is on)... but that's ok... decoding capability is the number of channels the NVR can display (or replay) at the same time... typically he would have live view set to a 2x2 screen and display the lower resolution sub-streams of the 3 cameras... when 1 camera is selected to be viewed, it would show the higher resolution main-stream.

Ah okay thanks mate , im guessing he will mainly be viewing on Hik-Connect and only the NVR if needing to change settings etc. So you would still say go for the 7608 and no the 7604 with the 8MP? Thanks.

Ah, you mentioned he was "updating" his system, so for some reason I assumed he already had the DS-7608NXI-K1/8P and was just changing cameras... In any case, the DS-7604NXI-K1/4P has the same decoding capability but only 40 Mbps incoming bandwidth... assuming he would like to run the 3 cameras at the full 16,384 Kbps bitrates, 40 Mbps won't do it.

That said, I'm not sure that's the best NVR for him to go with... I'd wait and see what @JB1970 or one of the admins here would suggest...

Yeah he is changing his full system , long story short , he almost got his car stolen with the signal boosters and his old swan system hasn't worked for a while so it's time for a change. He got the footage from my 4MP G2H/G3 and he was impressed.

And I'll wait to see if anyone else responds thanks mate.

There’s a beautiful DS-7616NI-M2/16P on eBay currently being sold by user ‘fireblade954rr2’ I wonder who that could be……:-)

As @johnfitzy says - the 7604 would be ill advised for 3 x 8MP, the 7608 is fine bandwidth wise, but still not great for playing back multiple 8MP streams (the K2 is a bit better than the K1)

On another note @Smoggie89...If your mate is removing a Swann system, make sure he checks the cabling if it's an IP system. I did an upgrade today and it was only as I was replacing the third camera I realised the 'CAT5E' was actually only 2 pair. I wasn't over the moon at having to re cable it...

Hello mate, his old system was running coax so he is taking everything out and doing a complete new system, he isn't tech savvy at all so he will hardly be checking hik-connect etc he said lol , he just wants them there for future use if ever needed.

He ordered through YESS - 3x 2387G3 and the DS-7608.

and as much as I would love a 7616 I have no use for one :(
