HIK Connect lost after firmware update

I've seen threads that mention rebooting the NVR after making changes to the hikconnect platform access. The restart may flush the internal DNS cache, make sure your primary and secondary DNS settings are the same for the NVR / cameras / router. Again restart the devices after making the changes. There's an element of straw clutching here but I know that dns cache conflicts can cause weird dns resolution problems.

As you've rolled back on the firmware a factory reset to default may be needed.
I will try this today David, I will also try the factory reset, first I will just make a note of all my current settings so i can put them back. should i just do the NVR or cameras as well?

On your NVR check system> Network> TCP IP> NAT. the external IP addresses and ports should have (I think) your router WAN (public) IP and the same port numbers as the internal side. If you do post an image redact the public IP addresses.

before the factory reset unbind your devices first

Hikvisions firmware management is terrible, I suspect the "free" public side of Hikvision is just a test bed.

Hi david no mine doesn't, i don't think it ever has either the status has always said not valid, maybe i have never set it up correctly in the first place and a bug in firmware has let it work before?

I have changed my NVR http and https port numbers as i have other devices on my network using these ones, this is where i get confused as to me the internal port and external ports dont make sense, i would of said that previously (Before firmware update) i thought my external port was set to my new http and https port numbers and the internal was set to the default 80 & 443 it appears now to be the other way round? i have changed them in the previous port tab.

i think it looks like it is using a dynamic IP or Multicast address?

David couple posts up you also said about using the same DNS on the cameras, NVR and router as i have my service providers DNS setup on my router and always have done would this be a problem?

I have now updated the router so all are the same.

I like to use the same primary and secondary DNS servers on my home network, can you change your router DNS servers to match? Don't forget to reboot.

who is your ISP?

Some of those port numbers look odd to me, this could be the root cause. what port forwarding do you have on your router?

as upnp is enabled on your NVR is it enabled on your router?

Hi David, I have Set router DNS to same as NVR & camera now and rebooted both devices.

No UPNP is disable on my router i can disable it on the NVR dont think it willl make a lot of difference as i have it set to manual, i am with tiscali, i have port forwarding for all ports needed on the NVR!

Has the NVR LAN IP address changed?

Earlier in the thread you mentioned port numbers being swapped, could you post the NVR port assignments and the relevant router port forwarding tables? Redact the last 2 octets of your wan public IP.

Do you mean on the NAT page - External IP Address? if so no it is still the same as before.

I am going to try a full NVR factory reset now as i have copied all my original settings in case i need to revert back.

I think possibly as i changed the DNS on the router earlier it looks as if it has now wiped off all my port forwarding assignments they where there earlier when i checked them. I will have to add them all again, then will post.

Changing DNS should not affect the router port forwarding rules. I see the NVR port assignments for HTTP and HTTPS are not standard, are these the ones you changed?

Before the factory reset lets double check the router port forwarding rules.

That is very strange i had already backed up the router configs so restored them back to what they where set to before i changed the DNS settings earlier then changed the DNS to match the NVR & Cameras and the port forwarding is still there this time will just perform a complete reboot of the router to see if they stay.

As your NVR knows the URL of the Hikvision server there should be no need for HTTP rule 6. The NVR will need to use port 80 for HTTP as the remote Hikvision server will be listening on port 80.

rules 7 and 8 should be ok as they are default for Hikvision and rtsp.

I assume all the other rules are setup for your own remote access. Don't forget the external start and end ports originate from the public internet WAN side and come into your router.

The http change is also reflected in the HIK Connect android software, I have always since i had the cameras had it set up this way and it worked!

I thought the server works on port 8000 for hik connect!

Forgot to mention i Have got a few other devices that also use http/https in port forwarding so i have to also change them.

Makes sense, its a long time since I used Hikconnect. Maybe the initial server link up is via port 8000, did you also setup the ports on your hikconnect server account?

my Hikvision default http port is 80, I think 8000 is for configuration. not sure

Oh ok, I wonder if you do need it originally set at 80 on the NVR to connect to the Hik connect server you then change it to the new http value in my case 8008 in hik connect then update the NVR the same, this also would mean disabling the current device that uses 80 in my port forwarding and making the changes.
