Hikvision poor quality playback on one camera , but not the other

Hi, new to the forum and very much a novice when it comes to cctv.

I have installed a two camera system ( will be four eventually ) at my house.
I have a DS-7604NI-K1, and two DS-2CD2386G2-IU AcuSense 8MP Darkfighter turret camera IR & Mic set up, via Poe.

The issue, is that playback on one camera is crystal clear but playback on number two is very poor quality. Both cameras are set up the same. Any one have any ideas why this is?

Live view playback on both is fantastic.

Is one always poor quality no matter what date/time you playback? Only thing I would suggest is to check your resolution/bitrate settings for cameras and for all streams. It could be that although the sub-stream (low res/small picture) and main stream (high res/large picture) might be setup correctly the "event" stream may be set wrong. I believe the Event Stream allows you to set different resolution/bitrate if there is a (e.g. motion) event. Allowing you to record continuiously at say a lower bitrate but ramp things up to a higher bitrate to capture events better.

I would check the resolution/bitrate settings on some or all of the following:

• NVR GUI interface itself
• iVMS-4200 NVR/camera settings.
• NVR web-based interface
• Each camera web-based interface.

Annoyingly, HikVision interfaces tend to show/offer different settings in each of those interfaces! e.g. You may only be able to see and set an "Event Stream" bitrate settings on the NVR or iVMS-4200 but not via the web interface...

Hi, thanks for the reply. Yes what ever time or day I check the playback it’s like it’s being recorded in substream quality .

I am a complete novice , what resolution/ bitrate settings would you recommend?

I tried rebooting the camera, and it now won’t let me save video and audio ?

Any ideas?

No right answer, as it will depend on how many days recording you want to keep and/or network bandwidth etc, but personally for 100% wired networks I use same settings for main/event streams which is:
Maximum resolution, highest frame rate, highest quality, variable bitrate, max bitrate 5120

And for sub-streams:
640x480, 10fps, medium quality, variable bitrate, max 512

For a few cameras I have over wireless links or on remote sites with poor broadband I sometimes lower the main/event stream settings as appropriate

Feel like a bit of a prat now. So was just going through every setting . Went into storage / schedule settings / advanced and the steam type was set to sub stream. Turned it to main and all is good.

One last question, do you keep videos/pictures for 14 or 30 days?

Or is it personal preference?

For professional systems or systems which cover/capture public areas/people there are data protection laws/guidance for the amount of data you should keep (at least in the UK). For personal home systems it's up to you but I think most people just have their systems recording on a constant loop and it will store whatever history the storage allows (which will of course differ depending on the number of camers, resolutions/bitrates etc). Once your storage is full/looping you will be able to see how many days back you are storing (e.g. in the playback calendar).

@L Bishop as @codlord said. I let the NVR overwrite old video when the drives are full. For my home setup I get about 2 months video.

How do I get it back to let it overwrite its self?

In Storage Settings > Schedule > Advanced again, change the setting to keep for 0 days. Do that for each individual camera.
