Firmware M Series 5.04.020_241106 Released - Issues/Avoid

You figured wrong! My OCD got the best of me...

That ARC is the only difference I could find... although I didn't look too closely... mouse scroll direction on playback still reversed and still no timeline markers on playback far as I could tell... no harm done:

You've saved me some time, thanks. It was no harm to someone already on 5.04.020. If I'd updated from 5.03.010 and found my issues weren't fixed I'd have needed to downgrade and program from scratch.

I did need to program from scratch... not so bad once, but that could get tired real fast! Was very careful about removing the NVR from my Hik-Connect account before I did the upgrade/downgrade.

I don't think that is the V5.04.050 build we were waiting for... it really just seemed to add that ARC application.

Did you by any chance have a G5 cam with the latest FW (as mentioned in New G5 camera firmware V5.7.19 build 241207 available on some product pages) synced to that NVR? Just wondering if you did because then we can rule out (for the most part) all devices needing to be updated to a certain version in order to get timeline markers on playback for the NVR.

Yes, six DS-2CD2387G2-LU and one DS-2CD2087G2-LU all running V5.7.19 build 241207.

I hope I'm not confused/misleading you guys...

Confirm for me under what circumstances should I see the timeline markers... it's been so long since I did see them...

I still (do now) see them for human/vehicle smart events...

I used to (I think) see them when I had basic motion detection enabled along with "Dynamic Analysis for Motion" enabled, even though I did not enable "Notify Surveillance Center" on the camera. Is that correct?

I still (do now) see them for human/vehicle smart events... What version is this for? V5.04.050, 5.04.020, V5.03.020? I’m certain V5.03.020 works as that's what I'm currently on.

I used to (I think) see them when I had basic motion detection enabled along with "Dynamic Analysis for Motion" enabled, even though I did not enable "Notify Surveillance Center" on the camera. Is that correct? Yup, although you don't need "Enable Dynamic Analysis for Motion" checked in order for the markers to show up.
- BROKEN. 1 CLICK HUMAN/VEHICLE SEARCH. Previously in normal playback clicking the Human (and/or Vehicle) icon would display timeline markers for all configured motion detection and line crossing events. These buttons now do nothing. The only way to get the same results is to configure a Smart Search which takes an age to manipulate a box, filter the results, change the playback strategy to skip unrelated (as the setting is not sticky). You can see this in the image of the timeline below:

- BROKEN. EVENT PLAYBACK MARKERS. Previously selecting Event Playback would show all markers for Motion and Line crossing events. Since update the timeline no longer shows the markers for Motion, only Line Crossing (not sure about Intrusion as I don't use it)

- BROKEN. HIK-CONNECT TIMELINE MARKERS. Since update, clicking the Human and/or Vehicle icons in the Hik-Connect app no longer populates the playback timeline with markers for motion detection (only line crossing). This feature still works when selecting a playback timeline period prior to the update and clicking the icon(s)
These three issues JB mentioned in his first post of this thread I'm referring to. Also, I put inline comment/question above in red.

I'm running DS-7616NI-M2/16P V5.04.020 build 241106 with DS-2CD2387G2-LU V5.7.19 build 241207...

I briefly tried that V5.04.050 ARC version and everything was the same.

I'm only addressing these two comments:

I just tried again with motion detection set like this:

I even set the NVR to "Notify Surveillance Center" for these motion events so I'm getting the alerts on my phone... but, still no markers on the NVR playback timeline or the Hik-Connect iOS app playback timeline for basic motion detection events... I do get markers for line crossing and intrusion detection events on both the NVR and Hik-connect.

Thanks! That is very helpful.

I am trying to update my M series 7608 from V5.03.020 to V5.04.20 through the NVR web interface.
I receive an error: "Upgrade stopped. Please check the network connection and try again."

Any clue?

If you have a mouse and monitor connected to the NVR, since you're getting that error message, maybe copy the .dav file to a USB flash drive and try installing from the NVR menus.

I have no mouse and display connected to my NVR. I hope I can use a different method to counter the error and successfully upload the new firmware.
If I press auto-update, the NVR says I already have the latest firmware. Which is strange because there is a new one on the official site.

Yes. The AI in the machine is warning you that this particular update is hopelessly buggy and should be left alone.

Not sure if these were already available here but I found release notes for V5.04.020 build 241106 here:

https://assets.hikvision.com/prd/public/all/files/202411/releasenote\K21B1_K22B1_V5.04.020_build241106_ReleaseNotes.pdf

I found this potentially interesting:

Is this new? Does it mean you can view camera streams directly from a web browser?
I just found these release notes on the USA site under an M series NVR and now they no longer show.

The URL still works though: https://assets.hikvision.com/prd/public/all/files/202411/releasenote\K21B1_K22B1_V5.04.020_build241106_ReleaseNotes.pdf
I wonder if feature 7 in the release notes have anything to do with human/vehicle markers not showing up in Hik-Connect playback for recordings after the FW update?

I posted it earlier. I was also wondering the same thing about those two protocols being added. There must be more to it than some pre-filled out stuff. Looking at our screenshots it looks like they must have removed something from the release notes, since your screenshot marks that feature as #6 and my screenshot marks it as #7. Looks like we posted the same link for the release notes so they are identical now. Unfortunately I did not download the one I took a screenshot of at the time.

If I ever get that message with the web UI and I know it was the next sequentially released update (which in this case it is), I go straight to using the BatchConfigTool.
https://www.hikvision.com/us-en/support/tools/hitools/
They have one for Mac and one for Windows. The Windows one is a bit better but the Mac one still gets the job done.

I have the M2 on this firmware, its odd as a couple of my cameras show motion events on the timeline on hik connect, but the others dont, i guess this is the same for everyone, any news on when this might be fixed?

Mine show markers for smart events (line crossing, intrusion detection, etc.), but not for basic motion detection... the next M series firmware release is scheduled for "after Christmas"... maybe it will be fixed with that.

Is the playback that shows motion events for those cameras recorded after you updated your nvr fw? It appears playback that was recorded prior to the nvr fw update shows the motion events fine on the timeline. Do you have all the same cameras or are those couple cameras different than the rest?

On mine it affects all cameras G3 and G5.
