Pre-record directly on to SD not working with motion detection

I do not want to use an NVR. I successfully record direct to SD on the following models of Hik IP camera: DS-2TD2166-7; DS-2CD4A45G0-IZ(H)S; DS-2TD2617-6/PA; PTZ-N2404I-DE3. However, I can't get pre-record to work. My settings are as follows:

Basic Event: Motion Detection - Both Motion Detection and Dynamic Motion detection enabled
Arming schedule: 24/7
Linkage Method: Normal Linkage (Upload to Memory Card) - Trigger Alarm (nothing ticked) - Trigger Recording (A1 & A2 ticked)
Schedule settings: Enabled 24/7 Motion
Schedule settings Adavnaced: Overwrite (ticked); Pre-record = 20s; Post-record = 10s; Stream type = Main stream

Using an NVR to connect the cameras then using the cameras alone for recording is a bit of an odd setup. I don't see how you can have motion on one camera recording to the SD card of another and that's what you have attempted by clicking A1 and A2 for the linkage. If each camera is to record to its own SD card I'd configure that setup directly on the camera and in storage > advanced on the camera you'll find that the camera is using the defaults of 5 seconds pre and post record. The pre and post record in the NVR storage menu relates to recording on the NVR.

Thanks for your reply. I do not use an NVR at all. My systems are portable and battery powered so adding in a an NVR is extra weight and bulk to carry around and power. The camera I am working with at the moment is Bi-spectrum, hence the A1 and A2. I can record continuously and I can record motion events, but for some reason I can't Pre-record those motion events. Even motion detection seems a little hit and miss (I have everything turned up to max and wave my hand in front of the camera - i.e. motion that can't be missed). I can't find instruction on how to definitively set up motion detection. Again, many thanks for your advice.

That's interesting, I'm not familiar with the bi spectrum cameras. I would expect that if you record motion only, the camera would be storing/buffering data and writing it to the card according to the pre and post event settings once an event is triggered. I wonder if it's an issue specific to the firmware platform that those cameras operate on.

Its the same problem for the single spectrum thermal (e.g. DS-2TD2166-7) or RGB/NIR cameras (e.g. DS-2CD4A45G0-IZ(H)S). So just imagine I had ticked A1 to record to the cameras own SD. I still can't get pre-record to work on to the SD.
