Hi,

I currently have one Hikvision DS-2CD2386G2-IU recording to an external hard drive which is attached to my router, so it's a SMB share over my local network.
I am using a WD Red Plus 1TB NAS drive.

I'm looking to get a new camera so will need a bigger hard drive to record to.
Do I get a "surveillance" drive or stick with a "NAS"?

TIA

Hi,

Western Digital have created and recommend the Purple HDDs specifically for surveillance and so this is what we recommend to our customers. We find them to be very reliable for CCTV recording.

I have attached the WD Purple HDD datasheet for you to look at for more information on the hard drives specifics, as well as the brochure which covers the full WD range.

If you are not sure what size HDD you will need we recommend using the Western Digital Calculator.

Hope this helps.

Gilly
